How about this curve?
Posted by FJ and G on Wednesday, June 9, 2004 7:50 AM
was reading MR magazine the other day (latest issue) and they compare a curve on a real railroad with that of an HO layout. I forget if it was radius or diameter, but the article states that it would take 400 feet to replicate a mainline curve rated for 80mph running. In O scale, i believe that would translate to something like 800 feet and 200 feet for N scale. Anyone have a basement that wide?

Just a couple feet to narrow [:D], I will need a biger room.
My who lot is not that big. I could just fit the N Scale curve but the town codes do not allow building new structures closer than 10 ft to the property line. A well I will have to be happy with my 24" curves in HO [:)]

There is no such thing as a bad day of railfanning. So many trains, so little time.

I guess I'll have to keep my speeds to 79 MPH

If one could roll back the hands of time... They would be waiting for the next train into the future. A. H. Francey 1921-2007

Meanwhile, trolley track gets as sharp as 40 foot radius--about six inches in HO. I guess that's an advantage to liking small engines and low speeds...I don't have to worry about those giant curve radii!
