cacole The OP said the motor needs to be replaced -- this has nothing to do with which model it is and whether or not the model is no longer in stock. The motor is probably the same in every Bachmann model so they should have replacements in stock.

Maybe, maybe not. As I believe you said yourself in another thread, Bachmann's options are either repair or replace. If they can't repair it, would they let the OP know that before they replaced it with something else? I think I'd be calling them first and asking them what the process would be.
So far as having the motor available to use as a repair part, I'd kind of think that if the motors were available they'd offer them as a spare part. I looked at their on-line parts catalog and the pickings were slim. Again, I think I'd call them first.

You may not want to do this. From reading other posts on these forums, if you have done any modifications to the engine to improve its appearance, you will not get the same engine back. As I understand the process, Bachmann does not do any repairs, but rather replaces the product.
Further, I just went and looked at the Bachmann website, http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/products.php?searchStr=k4&act=viewCat, and the three K4's that they show are noted as being discontinued and out of stock. So if they decide to replace the engine, you may get something totally different back.
cacole The standard procedure is to return it to Bachmann and they will repair or replace it. Go to Bachmann's web site and get their Customer Service contact information. http://www.bachmanntrains.com

Based upon my experience with Bachmann Customer Service, they are superb. They will take care of you, free of charge if under warranty, nominal cost if out of warranty. Give them a call. You will not be disappointed.
