MTH SD70ACe gear replacement - easy fix...
Posted by Heritagefleet1 on Monday, March 1, 2010 12:33 PM

I'm starting a new thread on this topic as the other discussion has wondered off into the land of pre-orders.

If you are reading this, then chances are you own one of the recent HO SD70ACe models produced by MTH. The most recent release(Dec- Jan)included the George Bush, Katy Heritage, MRL, EMD Demonstrators GM70-73, and NS SD70M-2 and Florida East Coast versions of this model.

Or, you may be considering the purchase of one.

Strictly for the purpose of informing those readers who have a concern about the slight 'lunge' in slow throttle speeds on these models, MTH has determined that a small number of these models made it through to consumers and will offer to service them with new replacement gears at no charge - or, you may replace them yourself by requesting a replacement gear set - again, at no charge.

For those of us who have been waiting for the latest release of the Mopac and Western Pacific Heritage units, as well as the UP Yellow-Sill stripes and CN 70M-2, they have been returned to the factory in China for replacement.

It will be a while before we see these - possibly as late as May.

I have performed 9 gear replacements on these engines and there are specific steps that should be followed in oreder to prevent damage to the shell/chassis.

If anyone has any questions about how to tackle this, I will be glad to contact you off - sight by email with instructions.

MTH is responding to this matter in a very positive approach and will get this setback over come very quickly.

Thanks to all

Rick
