Ed, I talked with the video people today.
The videos are sent to us based on the next available video in the SERIES one is subscribed to. Modeling is a series, prototype is a series, special DVDs are a series, etc.
You will continue getting more videos and more series unless you cancel OR SEND BACK 2 videos in a row! Even though I told them at the time I got my last video, both on the phone and a note attached to the returned video, that I only wanted modeling DVDs and did not want any DVS of the prototype videos, they ignored the comments and cancelled me from all series because I returned 2 prototype DVDs in a row.
The telephone lady today said she will start me up again where I left off. I objected because I did not want any more prototype DVDs and would just end up returning them and being cancelled again. She said to call if I get cancelled again. Now how stupid is that? Also, if I recall they never tell you that they cancelled you and the only way you know is if you don't get any more from them.
You'd think after buying about 20 of these at about $25 each, they would be a little more accommodating, wouldn't you. I guess they just don't care.
As for DVD numbered 73001D, I never got one. My first and which I assumed was the firstof the series was Layout, Modeling Tips & Prototype Railroads, # 73002D.

skippygp123 Does anyone have any idea about how these DVDs are issued? The one that I got first (for a modest $4.95) is 73002D and is titled Layouts, Modeling Tips and Prototype Railroads. Did everyone get this one first? Does anyone know which DVD is numbered 73001D? (Which, presumably, should be the first video in the series?) Thanks for any help you can give me on this. Ed

You can add "Stevens Pass: BNSF Conquers the Cascades" to this list. I have it (don't remember exactly when I got it, but was probably within the last 2-3 months as I just started getting these DVDs.)
Each of the DVDs has a code number on the bottom right of the back of the case. Does anyone know how these code numbers are assigned?
The DVDs that I have and are named "Volume ___" seem to start with 7300_D.
Volume 2 is 73003D, Volume 3 is 73004D, etc. The code number is always 1 more than the Volume number of the DVD (I only have Volumes 2-7 so far but it holds true for all of the ones I have....Volume 7 is 73008D.)
The Special Project Edition DVD that I have (Realistic Layout Operations) is number 73102D.
The Real Rails Editions I have start with 7313_D: Union Pacific's Moffat Line is 73131D. The Steverns Pass: BNSF Conquers the Cascades DVD (that I mentioned above) is number 73134D.
Does anyone have the code numbers and titles for the "Volume" DVDs? How about the other titled DVDs that have been listed earlier?
I do not suffer from insanity...I enjoy every minute of it!!! Over 60 and still playing with toys!
Are DVDs 1-18 just called "Volume ___"? As in "Volume 1" and "Volume 2" and so forth?
We just started getting them last year and already have 9 or 10 of them, I think. At $25 a pop, it's pretty expensive! If there are 68 videos, that's $1700!
We've been thinking about cancelling the things but some of them that deal with "how to" are pretty interesting even though we probably will never do any of that stuff (we have 2 4x8 sheets of plywood covered with green felt...)
Anyone have any favorites from this list? If so, why do you like that particular DVD?
I have about the first 12 to 15 and had to stop when i got laid off and couldnt afford them. Rather disappointing series to say the least. I realize that cuts have been made across the board in every industry but it seems to me that if a quality product were made it would be supported. I would have been more aggressive about retaining my subscription if they were more than "surface scratcher's" and the real trains were not what i enjoyed. I like real trains but prefer the videos on RFD when we had "pay tv"
o well a communications electrician/ low voltage tech cant be out of work for 2 years can he??
11 months off since jan 31 2008, Yes i found out new years eve while on vacation that i was laid off.
I received Expanding Your Model Railroad Part 2 maybe 3 or 4 weeks ago.
I'm missing a few from cwclark's list. Winter On Tennessee Pass I got about 3 weeks ago. About time for a new one.
jjsmith Boy, I have been getting these videos regularly from the start and cwclark has several listed that I did not get! Some of which I would like to have. I will be givig them a call on Monday and hope that I can get the ones I somehow missed. When was the UP Moffat Line sent out? I am missing 8 others! JSmith

All you need to do is call if you want to receive more of the DVDs. When I got the first modern diesel special, I returned it and called them to let them know I didn't want any more like that. I still get the others.
After you return a few, you come off their list. A free phone call will put you back on, if you want.

cwclarkThis post is for those that wanted to know what and how many Dream, Plan, Build DVD series there have been so far. I've been getting them since they started the series and this is what I came up with so far.
Thanks for the interesting list CW. I must have about 20 of these da** things, but the last was about August of last year -- Expanding your Model Railroad part 1, which I returned as I thought, to put it nicely, for me it wasn't one of their better ones and gave them some good and bad comments. And that was it.
The numbering of your list differs a little from mine after #19, but except for #'s 25, 27 and 30, they now seem to be basically old videos of the prototype. That is not what I expected when I signed up with the very first one quite some time ago. I started getting these because I thought they would be MODEL railroads related, with MODELING ideas, hints, tips, planning, techniques, problem solving, etc. not just more old videos of prototype railroads. Yes, I do realize the prototype has much value for our modeling, it's just not my preference at this stage of life and modeling, to say nothing of the time involved to watch them. Sigh. I guess that's what you folks really want, which is fine for you, otherwise they wouldn't have gone that route.
So, after reviewing your quite helpful list, rather than calling to restart the mailings, I decided against it as I likely would just get the prototype videos and have to return them. Wish they would go back to modeling, at least once in a while, and with original content rather than just rehashes.
I would love to have some more to watch. My LHS has 1 through 8, but that is it. Are they still $25.00 each?

That's strange, I have not gotten volumes 19-21 nor winter on Tenessee Pass. Now I'm wondering how they do their business.....chuck
You can add dpb vol19-21 and Winter on Tennessee Pass.
Thanks for the listing, I too have had the same issue twice before. Just sent the publishers an email now after seeing your post, suggeting to list on the site the DVD's avaliable so that we may purchase the ones of intrest instead of the mail-out thing. Seems that a is not working for a lot of us since this is not the first time this type of post has been done and with very similar replys.
Thanks again the list is a great start.
Gary
Got another one today after having returned the last three or four. But I have purchased about five or so. Judging by others experiences, I am not sure they have a set rule.

Several years ago Kalmbach sent me one gratis but I nevertheless returned it. The results were as hoped: I didn't receive any more.

Hi: I had a similar experance. I didn't like the ones that were all real train videos, and I sent 2 of them back and never got anymore.
