New Athearn 4-6-6-4 Challenger , New BLI

Hey gang,

I just saw the vid of the new Athearn Genesis series Challenger! Fantastic detail...Athearn has really impressed me with their Genesis models (I'm into large scale but I like Athearn so much I have a growing HO hobby) They have really pushed the standard with this one--looks like a brass with all that extra detail. The motors on all Athearn seem very robust.

The sound is fantastic --all that sound from an HO model...this hobby is getting better all the time.!

Has anyone heard the sounds for the new Pennsy BLI models? Do they sound as good as this Athearn model??!!

Go to TRAINS.com main page, then click on Model Railroader magazine, then you will see on the right a link to the VIDEO. Click on the link and the page will give you MS-windows or QuikTime video options, whichever picture you click on will download the video. Note: I used DSL while viewing, and it was a little choppy but I did have many programs in memory at the time. If you aren't using DSL you may get it even more choppy. However, the basic features you will see and the SOUND!!! WOW!!! turn your volume up and hope you have a good sound card in your PC!!!!

I can't wait for this loco to hit the stores!!

I wonder if all the stuff that has been going on will affect the production of the Challenger..................

Rumor has it that's what brought on the lawsuit. Bunch of railfans is where I heard it. Something about some higher up wanted a freebie and was told no.
REMEMBER this is just a rumor !!!![?]

Well yes Athearn is mentioned in the UP lawsuit along with Lionel. Don't know how this will par but Lionel just lost to MTH....hmmmm....these lawsuits could put companys out of business.

Athearn has justed moved from Compton to Carson, California. Not a very long trip; they are still about 24 minutes via freeway from me!! I hope the moving and the litigation don't disrupt the delivery of the Challenger....I want one of these!
