I'm disassembling my old structures so I can strip the paint off of them and reassemble them better than I had before. I'm not sure what I'm going to do to replace the missing and painted over window glazing in them.

I'm trying to help the Burlington Route Historical Society (or vise versa, I'm not a member and am pretty much asking them all of the questions!) find the dimensions to the coaling dock at Burlington, IA. Once they get thru with that, I'll start building an HO model of the coaling dock. Pretty soon I'll be getting an airbrush (although MAbruce doesn't need one if he can weather like that with all of his models!), but first I need to recover from paying off my BLI Heavy 2-8-2 (still waiting for BLI to ship it, then I'll wait for First Hobby to get it to me), plus whatever I'll spend at Galesburg Railroad Days.

Right now, I don't know what room my layout is going to be in, but either way, I have plans for one. Should be at least planning benchwork in another month.

Wow, a lot of work is being done around here. It’s great to hear about so many interesting projects. This is when this forum really shines! [^]

I've started weathering my hoppers…without the benefit of an airbrush. [:0] Here is a picture I took of my first try, using an older (N-scale) hopper with a “foreign” road name to experiment on:

Here it is in action with the second weathered hopper just behind it. The locomotives will eventually get weathered… when I work up the nerve to do it. [:-^]

I've finished the walls for the roundhouse--now I'm working on the scenery for my diorama. Due to the apparent banning of blue or pink extruded foam in California, I used Styrofoam-style 2" insulation for bulk scenery and 1" Woodland Scenics styrofoam for subroadbed. The mountain profiles I came up with weren't quite bulky enough so I shot it with GREAT STUFF insulating foam, which swelled things up nicely. After it dried I started cutting out the bits that didn't look like a mountain.

The old layout is totally gone. I'm now painting the room white to get better light reflection on the upcoming one.

I put on a 10'X20' addition on garage this spring, have all benchwork done, all track laid 60% DCC wiring complete, most buildings complete and wanting to install backdrops so I cant see other side of layout. Also, I just attended an op session with 1 of Bruce Carpenters associates( thanks again Chip, Bruce and friends. Gonna take it easy the rest of summer(sure I am). Also should spend some vacation time with wife and kids. Maybe drop a couple constuction photos on line, If I can figure that out. Keep RXRing. Randy

I am going to start a small "ingelnook" layout some time this weekend. to keep me stimulated until I can start my larger shelf layout, and more complex micros this summer. I will try to repair some structures from an old ( very old ) HO scale layout that was given to me a couple years ago, but is now dismantled. the layout will consist of 2 turnout the industries will be a grain elevator and a team track, plus a depot to keep my doodle bug busy. I will post some pics when I get it started. the layout will be a liitle larger than a micro, plus a small fiddle yard.

I'm going to continue building benchwork and laying track over the summer. Possibly start building some structures for the new layout and continue the design of the next addition. But before I do any of this I'm going to Florida for 10 Days!! Leaving Saturday and hope to be there on Sunday, if not then Monday. So before we leave I'll be looking for train oriented sites to visit in Central Florida. But I'll be taking a couple of months worth of train mag's to read when I get the chance.

I've got to work on my project for the scratchbuilding contest, which I hope to have done by mid July, and I've got to custom paint a locomotive I one off E-bay for the WSOR. I've also got to paint some WSOR RBL's. It's a rainy day around here so I think I'll go work on the Scratchbuilding project some.

Let's see........what don't I have going........

- Well, I'm putting my unit coal trains together for my future layout. I need several of them to accurately simulate the overhead traffic

- BN Business train in Cascade Green

- half-dozen locomotives for a Soo Line friend down the street

- installing tortoise switchmotors on his layout

- designing operating scheme for his layout

- GN Western Star consist, circa 1968

- how many of my own locomotives waiting for some sort of paint/decal/detail work

Sheesh, I better quit typing, and get to work on my pile!

Modifying 3 Spectrum PRR 4-6-2's into B&O 4-6-2's. Installing decoders, and lighting effects. I have a 4-6-4 Rivarossi I'm trying to jam a motor into as well. I don't think the 4-6-4 is going to make the layout.

Just finished a CN rotary snow plow and converted a GN winged snow plow over to a CP rail unit (came out nice) In the begining stages of a travelling smaller Module for our club, have the bench work and legs installed and have the track set out on the deck, will start to clean and install the track over the next little while and then of course scenery.
And of course always working on the home layout.

I'm working on some KATY F's and waiting on detailing parts. I'm going to pick a corner of my layout and just start working a in a week or 2. That means probably right smack in the middle.

I'm currently tuning an Athearn DD40 (single motor version) as it seems to need a fair bit more power to move than my other locos. I think I need to oil the axle bearings (which are where the axle goes into the truck sideframe, like the real thing!). So far, I've added Kadees and a load of extra lead ballast - this loco could now be used for weight training!

I also have a growing stock of "Blue Box" kits awaiting assembly - saving them for when I'm bored!

bit busy at present, therefore not too much time on the railroad.
1) benchwork around entire room - over the next 6 months (4x8 is gonzo)
2) layout design and trackplan - on paper (until benchwork done)
3) acquiring everything PICKLE (daughter is a pickle fanatic) - so, in the plans are pickle factory, Bicks Container cars, Heinz boxcar, a pickle tank (3-4 vats) car, Vlasic boxcar, Vinegar tanker, large greenhouse (scale acres) with cucumbers... anybody else "relish" the thought.
4) father-in-law is a beekeeper - so the bees have it
5) heavy duty equipment plant - tractors, dozers, harvestors, farms
6) Crime area - Courthouse, Police Station, Police cars (Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Abbotsford, RCMP, Michigan, CHiPs) jailhouse, chain gang, grafitti'd boxcar / tanker, bank robbery ...

cheers, krump

I finished acquiring structures off ebay for my 2x8' town. I am in the process of touching up, painting and building everything as I go. The enginehouse will be ready tomorrow, the coaling tower by sat. etc

There is alot of clearing of that wall space going on at the moment that helps me plan the future 12'x5' wall which will allow continious run.

There is alot of railroading going on in my house and I look back on thirty years and say it is about time I got out of the armchair.

I have lots of projects on Deck at the moment. More than I can shake a stick at really.
For starters in the custom paint business end of things, I have a 4 car set of D&RGW passenger cars in the booth being painted up in a freelanced paint scheme.

Then Personally I am upgrading an old Bachmann 50 Foot Plug Door Box Car. I am painting it in GN Big Sky Blue.

I am also building a Revell 1-72 Scale F-117 Model Kit.

Then if that isn't eneugh, my primary computer's hard drive decided to die today. So I am running on the spare that is primarly relegated to making switch lists for my railroad. and for when stuff like this happens. So I have a comp-repair to effect as soon as the new hard drive comes in. (Rather my friend Conrad does, I am a clutz when it comes to working on computers)

Just finished up tracklaying on my engine servicing area. Now I have to wire it and add the scenery. I'm going to wire it for dc even though I'm going to DCC asap but I figured it's probably noto a bad idea to be able to turn off this area so I don't have engine "wanderinig" when I don't want them too.

My current project is detailing, painting, and decaling a Stewart C630 for my freelanced Potomac Valley Lines railroad. It goes slowly especially since I spend most of my free time with my girlfriend[:D] or with my camera trackside on the weekends.

Atter fininshing my last GP 38-2 in severe weathered paint I decided to take it easy and just replace the door on an Athearn PS 5344 GTRA car and two IM cylindricals in Canpotex after redoing the sill and brake rigging. You can check out the CN GP38-2 at my website.

I worked on mountain slopes last month. They turned out great! Now I'm decaling a GP9 shell and I have three GE 70 tonners to decal next. That should complete my roster for a year or two.

My tracks are all laid and 25% of the scenery is done. I'm just not motivated to play in the paint and plaster this month. Oh well, moods change.

I recently completed most of the benchwork and fitted some 2" foam for my base. I am now putting down some track and redesigning my track plan. This is my first layout in about 25 years. It has been a fun learning process.

I'm working on a 2x2 foot diorama for a museum.

It's a small engine terminal--currently I am working on the roundhouse (a heavily kitbashed Heljan roundhouse) and next is the turntable. Even cut down and using short 1890's dimensions, it will take some squeezing to get everything into a 2x2 space.
