Life inside a helix

Pity the poor dispatcher whose job it is to work from the inside of a helix (see article on layout planning in MR's "Track Planning 2004".
First, he must crawl under the d**n low-clearance structure and then endure a torture worse than Abu Gharab prison, with trains buzzing around and around him, driving him crazy, while other operators are out in the open enjoying the operation of trains.
Would any of you admit to spending solitary confinement inside a helix; and if so, how did you survive the experience and remain mentally intact?
