Q: securing a backdrop in harsh location
Posted by vsmith on Wednesday, June 2, 2004 4:35 PM
OK got a tough question here.

I have a garage layout with 2x4 sheets of masonite attached to the walls and currently are painted Sky Blue, I would like to add a backdrop to this.

I was thinking of adding Walthers pre-printed desert landscape backdrops mounted to black art board and then cut out the Walthers sky and mount to the painted masonite "sky" to get a slight 3D effect. Mounting the art board to the masonite is not what worries me, but getting a clean bubble free permanant mounting for the backdrop is of concern.

What would be a good adhesive for mounting the walther backdrop to the art board without it eventually bubbling from hot/cold conditions or coming apart at the edges.

Again this is in the garage where heat, cold and humidity are going to effect the adhesive.

Any one got some suggestions[?]

vsmith- I mounted Walthers backdrops to styrofoam insulation in an unheated garage here in Indiana(surely worse weather extremes than L.A.) with good old Elmers. Now I'm not recommending that glue in particular, others might have better advice reference the glue, but I did use a wallpaper paste roller to smoo***he dab of glue in the center of the backdrop to the edges, and there were absolutely NO bubbles or wrinkles. Rollers cost a few bucks and come in handy for ton's of stuff.
Good luck!

Hi,
I have used large glue sticks available at Staples and Office Max. I did try Elmer's but found that because it is water-based, it tended to make my foam board warp. When you use a glue stick, be sure to put it on heavy....make sure you don't have thin spots of glue, especially around the edges where the backdrop could peel back.

Hope this helps.
