Guys, is it really necessary to repeat last week's unpleasntness?

Bill C, you seem like a smart guy. That was a cool trick how you got the stars to appear in your post. I hate to say it but you are now cursed with a star of your own, and if you aren't careful you will have 2, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Let's face it, this topic should never have been started. But every time Bergie has intervened, and it hasn't been very often, someone always wants to discuss it. There is no need to discuss it, it's over. Personally I wi***hat he hadn't locked the other one, because I was under the impression that it was over. The lock is so unusual, that it causes a buzz on those rare occasions that Bergie uses it.

I thought this topic had ended too, but every time it moves out of sight someone feels the need to post to it. EVERYONE PLEASE STOP!!! Just don't post to this anymore. I'm not telling you, I'm asking you nicely, for the good of the of the forum. I have seen this before, and no good comes from this.

Thank you.

Just my $.02 worth-

Long time member of this board, occassional poster on topics that interest me. [8D]
I am a moderator at a camping website, and problems like these pop up all the time. As a moderator, there's a thin line you walk between deleting and censoring posts. In my experience, we've e-mailed people to "play nice" when topics that they've started or replied to seemed rude or tended to flame other members. In the year that I've been a moderator, we've only kicked off one member, and we(the mods) debated that for 3 weeks before we did.
As was noted here, this is a general discussion forum, so apparently anything goes. If people want to post opinions, fine, just take the personal attacks to private e-mails or private messages. Don't subject the rest of the board to your rants and raves.[:(!]
Bergie had every right to lock down that topic. I, myself, has had to lock a few topics down on the camping board, and e-mailed the person with the reasons why. It's Bergie's board to moderate, and his decision is final.
BTW-nice job, Bergie.[tup][bow]

Hey philnrunt,

Bergie does a great job. As I said before, he is very approachable. He is also level-headed, sensible, and even-tempered. I am glad that we such a person as moderator.

george745 is right, I never meant for this to be a continuance of the original problem, I was hoping that it would get some responses about the SD70MACs and how well the moderators do their jobs.
If there is anyway I can delete, disintegrate or destroy this thread, let me know how and I will.
My apologies to all.

I was afraid this would happen. As I said on the first page of this thread, that with opening another topic in reply to the locked topic that the arguement would come true. We have reopened the arguement. This went from someone stating that it was his first time seeing bergie locking a topic, to a continued arguement over the locked topic.
So please let's let this one die, Agree to disagree. and lets go back to something more productive. Before bergie has to come back on and dlock another topic.

Remember that this is the internet so others will different opinions and not agree with you. This is a great thing as long as we can hold ourseslves back from name calling.

Hey bill mathewson,

Wow! Once again I am amazed at how we read the same thing and we all extract something totally different. (and this is in a nice, polite tone as to not let anyone take this as an angry post as so many have done in the past).

I never said I exposed you. I said people - meaning more than one. Your assumption that it was directed toward you shows you harbor some resentment still even when no one was singled out. This is amazing. Please get over it.

Then you just called me a spoiled *** and that I have some anger issue. This is simply not true. I will let your hurtful and non-condusive comments bounce off of me. But I know you feel better putting others down. Again, I don't want to be a self-appointed moderator on this forum or any other as so many have become.

hopefully my last correspondence re: Mr. Carl-

I've been trying to just ignore the continued rumblings and ramblings on this topic for the past week or two, and by my staying out of it, and therfore not encouraging it, one would have thought that the absurdity of this topic would be realized, the angry voice would subside and hopefully realize that what he started wasn't appropriate or particularly of any merit to anyone.

Mr. Carl, please reread 'emaraldisle's above post, and then read your own comments regarding this topic being locked down because "it wasn't really condusive to model railroading and no good would have come from it if it had continued." You are absolutely correct ! This is the first and only thing you've stated that I cannot fault. Unfortunately, it was you who started that topic, made the attacks, and you still do not realize that, as a minimum, to continue this further, not only do you still apparantly misunderstand the (lack of) significance of the 'stars', but you are perpetuating the impression that you are a spoiled ***. You may want to cruise the other comments re: this nonsense on other threads that demonstrate that you should just eat a bit of crow, compose yourself, and then contribute positive stuff, or remain silent.

I had considered to just allow the sound of your one hand clapping on this issue to just dwindle away into oblivion, but when you allege that you 'exposed' someone (me) I cannot remain passive. I hope that I haven't offended anyone by my reponse to you, and I'd hope that when, and if you childishly spout off again as you did concerning someone else, that they'll slam you back into place in a heartbeat. This Forum is for the enjoyment of everyone, and each of us has but one vote, and we do that as many times as we care to. It is supposed to be fun, informative, and beneficial to everyone, whether they are a newbee or an experienced model railroader.

As an 'experienced' model railroader, which one would assume you are, as evidenced by your accolades displayed with your signature, your profile, and on your website, one would hope that you would bring a positive, self-confident, more mature and mellower attitude to this Forum. Frankly you appear to be angry at something that needs to be confronted and resolved before you jump on a Forum and start slinging mud and picking fights, especially with people you do not know, or have a valid issue with. . .

And I hope, as I believe most all Forum members do, that this topic will just die, because Bergie locked it down for good reason. To have it resurface under a new topic heading defeats what he was trying to achieve - that is, for all this negative crap to just stop. And I hope that it will do just that, for every post just brings it to the top all over again.
BILL

Hey emeraldisle ,

I am truly amazed on how we all read the same thing and get a totally different meaning out of it.

I never complained about the stars. Actually, I applaude those that have earned stars by posting relevent replies to help others. I made an observation based on fact (10 posts in a row with only 3 words per post). That is indesputible. Nothing more.

When I said you should go away, that was in the vernacular. I know there is no way of breaking the NES addiction. It is like crack and heroin.

Look at all the hurtful things you have said about me in the last few postings and look how I let them bounce off of me. I don't know where you get this idea that I have a "rigid, narrow-minded, line of thinking." Do you hate me so much just because I don't have enough stars yet to be considered on of the "in crowd"?

Where does all of your anger come from? Please look at all the topics I reply to. I am not here to start trouble. I try to help others. I have never once posted to TCS or NES, which by the way, is where I see you spend a lot of your time - AND that is fine.

I am here to promote the hobby, help new comers and old timers alike, and I'll bet I 'll learn a thing or two at the same time.

Don't go away mad, just go away.

So why are you complaining so much about the NES, Stars, and Content on this forum. Read the Header, it says "General Discussion" and alot of people come here to have a little fun, talk about trains or anything else that happens to be on their mind, and touch base with everyone. I won't go away and neither will anyone else that doesn't subscribe to your rigid, narrow-minded, line of thinking. And BTW, I also want the hobby to grow, I've been in this hobby for over 50 years, but I also recognize the need for other topics to talk about and the need for ,even at our age, to have a little fun.

Hey emeraldisle,

Ouch! Can't we just agree that some people like to live in the chat rooms of TCS and NES and others of us want the hobby to grow?

The __LAST__ thing I want to be in this forum (or any other) is a self-appointed moderater - as so many have become.

Morning Dougal;

How's your computer now-a-days, did you finally get rid of the dreaded SASSER?

As for the author of the above mentioned topic, he'll never be satisfied until he can dominate this forum and dictate what topics are placed here. Please, what ever you do, don't align your self with guy, he's nothing but trouble, with a capital "T".

That topic ("Now I Know Where People Get There Stars From") was the WORST topic I've seen since I started posting here, beats the UP topics. The funny thing is this part of trains.com is the forum where there aren't many off topic posts (check out the Trains Mag forums where almost everything is off topic).

I was mentioned a few times in ways I didn't like so the quicker that was out the better for me!

That would really turn you on, wouldn't it. It's a shame that you as a new poster here, can't just come onto the forum, join in with everyone else, and just simply enjoy the topics. Instead, YOU see fit to come on here with your high and mighty attitude, and stir up nothing but trouble. If you don't like what you see on this forum, then go some where else, no one is twisting your arm to stay here. [:(!][:(!][:(!]

Well, the right to express our opinion still rules, a not so anonymous person let the clutch out on the train sim forum, I'm amused on the "viewed" entries, seems others got a kick out of Kirsty's comments, I hated the fact of the particular forum chosen, I wish more participation in that particular part of the hobby of railfanning, and really, I expected to see that thread locked down(preferably deleted)! Anyway, I think reprimand in this case will not produce any favorable results, however difficult it is to run 'em away with kindness. Enjoy Being Kind! acj.

I think he locked it instead of deleting so we could see his reasoning for locking it. If he would have deleted it a new post would probably have been posted explaining why he deleted it, which would have started another potentional negative thread. This way the people who have been a part of the thread see why and it effictivitly ends the thread.
