a GC Laser co-op grain elevator and office

and a Digitrax UR92 so that I can upgrade to radio control.

I also received some money so I plan on going to the LHS on Monday to purchase a BLI CNW E7 with sound.

GREAT STUFF GUYS ! and best of all is always health.

I agree,

as for train related stuff, I got nothing. That is until I put in an order to Walthers Monday for some "stuff" including a gold line caboose (I only have the ones that came with my starter sets over 10 years ago).Smile,Wink, & Grin

My sister got me a couple of sets of figures - some "train workers" by Life-Like and a group of loading dock guys by Preiser.  The Preiser set is one I haven't seen before, and from their low price I suspect they were hidden in the back somewhere for a long time, and have since been discontinued.

But, I got two more things that were precious indeed.  The first is time.  I've now got a whole week to work on my layout, which I need because I've got benchwork to build, and then I can start wiring and laying track on the extension.

Finally, I have "Permission."  My wife and daughter both got new skis, and my old ones are good enough for me, so I told her I might go locomotive shopping.  "I won't say a thing," she replied.

Train related, two Matchbox cars (vehicles). I know, I know. But it was from my son and he's not into Model Railroading. I told him don't get me anything, he's got three young kids and needs to keep his funds. He got me something anyway and he tried. I told him they would work fine.

Looks like there are some fantastic gifts out there. But I see were some of you recieved presents no money could ever possibly buy. I remember the first year without my Father. I would have given all the train stuff in the world for just one more Christmas. It has been given to you and you are truly blessed.

Since getting back into trains, I once again get exited about that visit from Santa. This year he didn't disappoint. I got two tree ornaments. A  2-8-0 and a 4-4-0 to hang on the tree.  A 24 DVD set on Trains of North America that looks great.  An Atlas 11000 Gal. Dow Chemical Tank Car. An Athearn 50' PGE gondola (with load). And a Proto 2000 C.P. SW9/1200. I will need to install a decoder and that will be a first for me.  All in all a pretty good haul. Now it's only 34 more sleeps til my B-day. I can't wait.

Lets start the ball rolling. What did Santa bring you this year?

Socks.  It is train related because I do wear socks while riding trains and working on my layout.  My sons got some Thomas engines, and Lionel's O-scale Polar Express.(they have to share with Mommy on her dept 56 display and Daddy who loves trains)

Edited to add: Being cancer free is a very good thing.  Not having cancer, well that's a gift we all take for granted until it's taken away.  Enjoying my socks in good health, and hope all my Train friends do as well.

My thoughts exactly. To be able to hold close those that you love instead of just having to remember them is precious.

Thanks guys.   Now that the shock is wearing off, the train implications are just beginning to sink in.  The auto accident was in my off-road 4x4. It will be harder to chase those mountain ghost railroads now.

The good times:

And the end:
The police say they are surprised it didn't roll either on impact or when it slid over the embankment (slope can sort of be seen just past to the left of the front tire).  Of course it has a roll bar, but still.   I don't think it will be running on the rails or over old mountain passes anymore.  The rear tire is in the correct place.  The rest of the vehicle is indented those 12-15 inches.

While I didn't get anything railroad related, here's what I got:

From my parents:

  • A set of food containers
  • 1 new bathrobe
  • 10 new shirts
  • $300 cash (and they said they were going to cut back this year since my dad is retiring next year)

From my brother and sister-in-law and her two kids, I got a $50 Visa gift card.  I've got some things I've been needing to get for elsewhere around home, but with the cash and gift card, I think I'm going to finally go ahead and buy the two walkaround throttles I've been wanting to get and the terminal strips I need to wire them into the layout.

My 4-year-old nephew did get some train-related things this year.  From his other uncle who works for NS as a conductor, he got an NS Lake Division stocking cap.  From me, he got a big Thomas the Tank Engine story book (he loves trains and Thomas the tank engine) as well as the first season of Emergency! on DVD (he loves fire trucks and emergency vehicles).

Also, just a question on the car. Is it "Street Legal"??? Thumbs UpLaugh

Blue Flamer.

The real car ? No (well anything is legal if you don't get caught!)

As for the Jet , I scratched one in HO and have always wanted one in N Scale. I used to model NYC in HO.

Thanks , Mike

I received a gift card from Micro-Mark!  Now comes the hard part---trying to decide what to purchase since the amount of the gift card is not enough to buy everything in the catalog! Smile

OK I'll jump in: Walthers gift card, gift card to a LHS, bags and bags of WS assorted foliage and ground foam, Cinder conveyor kit and a Downtown Deco kit...

Also a father pronounced cured of prostate cancer....That one's the best ever!!!

Matt

Matt.

Congratulations on your Dad's good news.

I can relate to that. 4 or 5 years ago, my PSA test, (that's a Prostate Specific Antigen blood test for those who aren't aware) almost doubled in a year. The specialist that I was sent to had me in the hospital for a Biopsy on the Prostate to check for cancer. (Uncomfortable, but not really painful). I was one of the lucky ones. No "Big C" showed up. It was just a very enlarged Prostate. Whew! Medication is keeping it controlled.

Just a word to the wise to ALL you fellas over 40. Get your Doctor to do a prostate exam and a PSA test every year when you have your yearly physical. It is better to catch the problem early when it can be treated and possibly save your life than to have the cause of death listed on your Autopsy Report as "PROSTATE CANCER".

I don't know if I can give Santa the credit or not but how about a not dead wife back from cancer surgery at the hospital and a not dead daughter from a horrendous wham by a drunk driver.   Train wise it was a very slow year, under the tree there was an Empire Builder game variation "China Rails" under the tree.  I got to (had to) pick out all the gifts this year so it wasn't much of a surprise - it was the cheapest train related game I could find.

I think you got the two best gifts anyone could ask for....Angel

wcu boy.

Just keep a positive attitude. All things happen for a reason. I have had a couple in my 70 years but I just kept plodding along and things eventually worked out. Mostly for the best, I think. The wife and kids and I did without a lot of "wants" through the years to make sure our mortgage was paid on time and that there was food on the table and that the kids got presents at birthdays and Christmas. The mortgage was paid off early because we chose to do without the "wants" and thank God it was 'cause the company came along and downsized when I was 58 and out the door. The comfortable pension that I was expecting at 65 turned out to be only half the size and the four months severance package for 41 years of service didn't help a great deal.

Just hang in there.
