You are right dave, the studs on the unballasted K track has the same color as the ties and is very well worked into the ties, the track feels and looks a lot like the 2 rail flex track and is also available in 3 feet lengths, an I even think you can use the track in a two rail system as well, because the rails are insulated by the plastic ties, as is the middle contact.

Lupo,
I saw some unballasted C track and the studs look a lot less noticeable.
I'm not into HO anymore but if I were, I'd likely go Marklin. Some nice operating cranes and other accessories and really fine running machines.

Dave the slider is running over studs in the middle of the tracks, those studs are app.1.5 milimeters above the ties, so if you take the same precaution as with 2 rail HO track in ballsting this will not be a problem.
BTW do you know marklin K track, it is very similar to the 2 rail HO track has no ballast, so you can use your own. looks and works quite like flextrack,

this is a modular club-layout made with K-track, notice the black studs in the middle of the tracks
if you want to see more: http://www.m-track.org/ it is in dutch but "Foto Galerie" is where the pictures are,
have fun

I believe some of their trains are U.S. As for the C track, I'm wondering if it takes ballast well without affecting the sliders.

If you can afford it and like European prototypes it's about the best quality you can buy. It's the BMW of model railroading.

Anyone own some Marklin HO? I know it's expensive but what about the other features? I also know that the couplers are not compatible with other HO. I do like the looks of their C track stud rail.
