Can you tell me which decoder to use in a Franklin Mint Southern Crescent Limited and how to install it.

Thank you.

RDPGreen,

Forgive my ignorance but, aren't locomotives from the Franklin Mint non-powered? Were you interested in DCC/Sound? If it is a powered unit you can use a decoder from Soundtraxx.

Go to www.soundtraxx.com

Click on the first box: Soundtraxx DCC.
On the next screen, click on Sound Samples and determine which steamer sound comes closest to the sound you want. After this you can then choose a specific Sound/Motor decoder from the chart. For tips you can check out:

If you e-mail Bruce, he'll reply with helpful info.

Both the engines from the Franklin Mint in recent years (Sou 4-6-2, NYC 4-6-4) were powered. To me, they looked like barely spruced up Mantua engines, but I've never actually examined one closely.

If they're anything like Mantua or Bowser engines, you should be able to add a DCC-friendly motor and then add any high amp decoder. Definitely check with Litchfield or Loy's Toys for suggestions.
