Loys Toys (www.loystoys.com) is a good source for dcc stuff, too. I think I have bought some stuff at gadget tom's, too (www.gadgettom.com). They have Soundtraxx stuff there.

I recently bought a Broadway Limited 2-8-2- Hvy Mikado, which of course was sound equipped, for $200. I'm not sure on their diesel costs, I think I've seen some around $150 and some around $400 (for A/B units).

The cost of a SoundTraxx equipped locomotive is going to depend more than anything else on the cost of the locomotive before sound installation. An average price for SoundTraxx is $100 plus installation. I think Tony charges $25-$35 for installation, again depending on the locomotive type, because some are more difficult than others. Phone Tony's and ask. They can tell you how much it will cost, including shipping.

~$300 for Soundtraxx low cost, because it is a custom installation.
~$400 for Soundtraxx top of the line,
~$200 for QSI® because it is factory.

Tony has an excellent reputation and I don't hink you have to worry about his work. I would rather screw something up myself and face the possibility of having to replace a fried decoder or two initially for the cost savings in the long run. If you are more comfortable with somebody else doing it thats ok too.

Have heard many good things about Tony's Trains.

If you wi***o compare with comparable quality service, check out:

(1) Litchfield Station--------------- www.LitchfieldStation.com

(2) DCC from Regis--------------- www.regisdcctrains.com

Each is reputed to offer good service at competitive prices. Prices for services are usually listed on the websights.

Hope this helps! [;)][:D][8D]

I just purchased a LLP2k GP60 BNSF from tony's trains. They are installing the decoder. Tony's seems to be mentioned quite a bit in this forum and I am certain they are reputable. I am new to the hobby so i am weary of website dealers.

What is a reasonable price range for the above locomotive with soundtraxx decoder?
