Back to the future, Kalmbach style
I think it's getting a bit weird. July is still in the future but Kalmbach is sending their July copies of MR and Trains back to the past in May. Like Lupo I received mine today.

Wow, they are getting farther and farther ahead.

My subscription is good 'till January 2004, but at this rate it'll be used up by the end of summer!

I've always wondered that too...

Could someone at MR explain to us how come even though the magazine comes at the beginning of the month(for me anyway), it is always labeled as next month's issue?

Example:
January issue came at the beginning of December.

If you want to talk weird and inexplicable, here you have guys in The Netherlands having already received their July MR and I can definitely tell you that I won't see my copy arrive before the 3 or 4 of June (it comes essentially the same day every month)!

lupo got it first because it was beamed via global satelite to their printer. We don't have that
service domesticity .

Don't know about our friends in Germany.

Dear readers,
While even I am amazed that the July MR is in the Netherlands already (our overseas delivery outfit is really on the ball!), I can answer the question of why we have to date the magazine a month ahead. That's a requirement for newsstand sales. The issue that is on sale on the newsstand during the calendar month of May carries a June cover date, because that's when they remove it from the racks.
I know it seems goofy, but that's the way the system works. Here's another strange thing about newsstand sales: they don't tell us how many copies they sell, they tell us how many they DON'T sell. Then we have to see how many we sent and subtract to get sales.
Anyway, thanks for reading MR, and I hope you enjoy the July issue.

Why is July in? It's only May and I'm still trying to finish June's, and June isn't even here.

Two months into the future would be, IMO, a lot better for the Wall Street Journal. Then we would know what stock prices are doing 2 months from now!

MR is send from the US to Frankfurt Germany, from there it is distributed to holland,
so german MR readers might receive it a day ealier, but let's wait and see, there are some german members around who can fill us in
