Well,

I have had a very successful week on E bay ordering some very specific items for my new town.

I had to do some last minute "Sniping" Bidding out products that was needed out from under others but managed to get em.

My structures etc probably were 1960's kits that are not made anymore and one does get tired of seeing walthers on every layout. The funds with the shipping wound up not being much less than a Hobby Store.

Ebay is not for everyone. Be very careful what you choose to buy.

I've been very happy with www.hobbylinc.com . They have great selection, prices and customer service. They have a link where you can check on your order's status the whole way through the process from accepting the order, picking the items from the warehouse to shipping your order. I’ve always had delivery within 7-8 days of submitting my order.

if you want something that is rather rare or in short supply there is always www.walthers.com the model railroad mall. They have everything, but you pay retail so there are many times you can find it elsewhere cheaper.

On the other hand once you get an order in, you are usually put on the list for their seasonal sale mailer, which can give you some great deals that are not advertised on the general website.

Walthers also has another thing going for it: they are the original article. The Walthers big book is to MRR what the blue book is to used cars. These guys are legit and probably the most reputable. The site is also laid out well and you can search for whatever you want very easily.

Also if you're ever in Milwaukee make sure to stop by their headquarters it's worth a visit.

I would take a look at the Standard & Trainworld ads in MR. Generally they are
25% of MSP and can save on big ticket items. Both enjoy a good reputation

There are some disadvantages in doing out of town business.
You can't pre-test.
Whats the policy on back ordering? and the related additional shipping expense?
Returns and restocking fees?
Exchanges?
Out of the box, won't run?Who do you return it to.
Regardless where you buy, determine your product warranty. They vary from 30 days to life.

Now that you have all the answers, you're ready to order.

Tom's trains of CT.

He used to have a LHS, but it had to close and he now is internet only. The web site is horrible!! but he has great prices and has always provided me with excellent personal service. For example, I had a standing order for all the CB&Q Walthers passenger cars last year. He pre-ordered them for me and shipped them as they came in. His shipping cherges are a flat $6.95 per order regardless of size. He often has some great liquidation sales. Just e-mail him with your wants and he will give you a quote. I have no other connection, except as a very satisfied customer.

Cherry Creek Hobbies, Torrinigton, Wyoming, if you model in HO scale. A good selection, fair pricing, and quick delivery.

Hi,
I have ordered lots of stuff from Hobbyland.com and have been very satisfied. They discount at least 20% and sometimes more.

I have found Standard Hobby Supply to be one of the BEST places to buy model railroad supplies. If your looking for anything Walthers you can most of the time get it for $5-10 cheaper from them. They have a very fast shipping service and ALWAYS friendly to deal with.

Check out there online catalog. I have bought from them for many years as they CAN sell cheaper than a LHS and they know what they are talking about if you might have a question.
