Con Cor HO train car problems

i recently got a con cor coal car for $4.99 can. after i buit it i realized that it was the same car that i had gotten a few years ago. but they both have the same problem; they derail on the turns. does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it?


also, how do you guys like my new signature pic?

The wheels are out of gauge and check that the trucks move freely. I have never found a Concor car that all of the wheel sets were in gauge. Also sometimes the pivot pin gets squashed when tightening down the truck screw. This will make the truck tight.

As cmr says, it's the wheels. Pitch them and replace with metal ones. They'll run fine after that.

IIRC some of these cars the wheels hit the underframe angles when turning. File or cut clearance to end the problem. If you turn the assembled car upside down and rotate the trucks you will see where they hit. Changing wheels will not eliminate this if that is the problem
