On my system here that I use the Photobucket works pretty much the same except that the way that I "copy/paste" is this:

I hover the mouse over the pic I want copied--

The chart pops up and I click the IMG---this becomes blue---

I then RIGHT click the blue IMG---a menu comes up that has "COPY" on it---I click that

I then go to my post and click the little clipboard icon between the 2 page and the clipboard with the W on it---that may bring about a menu about whether you want to allow access--click "allow access"--to that--

And once clicked it should bring about the result thusly:

Any argument carried far enough will end up in Semantics--Hartz's law of rhetoric Emerald. Leemer and Southern The route of the Sceptre Express Barry

I just started my blog site...more stuff to come...

This web site (trains.com) does not store pictures, you cannot upload pix to trains.com.  We have to put our photos on some other website and them place a "link"  (longish string of characters that points to the desired photo) into our post on trains.com.

The "other" website many of us use is Photobucket.  It's free.  You have to set up an account with Photobucket and then up load your pix onto Photobucket.  There are other photo sites on the web, and most of them work too,  although some of them require money, like the Kodak Easyshare site.

Once you have your pictures posted on Photobucket, you have to copy the "link" out of Photobucket and paste it into your post on trains.com.   A browser that supports "tabs" makes the cutting and pasting easier.

In Photobucket hover the mouse over the desired photo and a chart with FOUR links appears.  Trains.com wants the bottom link, the one labeled "IMG".  Copy that link.

Switch back to Trains.com and click on the "insert/edit image" button in the post editor, the one with the green tree on it. Paste the link into the "Image URL"  window.

  That's it.

Tony, you are right, Control C. I edited my post. Thanks. Your old post is a very good one. I remember when I was tryting to learn this, it took several attempts to get it right and two or three of the guys then were patient enough to get me through it.

Many of you might now be aware of it, but you can save this page or any other page into your Favorites folder. If Trans.com does not change the forum, you will still have the page when you click on the link you have stored.

Set up a folder in your Favorites folder for trains.com messages. That way a message of interest will not be “buried” in the forum. The forums can be difficult to search, depending on the subject.

...9. Copy (control P or from the menue) - sometimes this is not needed if you get the word "copied"...

I think you meant ctrl+C to "copy" since ctrl+p is the keyboard command for "print".

A long time back I created a how to thread to show photo sharing for the forum.  Here it is if you want to look at it: http://cs.trains.com/trccs/forums/p/143018/1595966.aspx#1595966.  It's kind of lengthy but it pretty much walks you through the process by hand. I didn't initially mention making separate folders (or albums) but that is a very good idea to do at the begining.

This has been discussed before. Here is a link to a recent discussion. I included a photo in that discussion to try to give an idea of what you will see if you use Photo Bucket. Remember to select different albums for different categories because you can get a lot of photos there and have a hard time finding them. There is another discussion a couple days ago right near this one. Please take a little look and you can also search the messages for photos or pictures. A little effort from you will be necessary.

1. Have a digital camera

2. Take some pics

3. Register with Photobucket. It is free but takes time. Google Photobucket and follow their directions

4. Have a place on your computer to store your digital photos and download them to that site.

5. Open Photobucket and follow directions for uploading your photos from your computer to their site

6. To put a pic on the forum, open a response or a new thread and type what ever text you want

7. Open photobucket and find the pic you want

8. Click on the bottom of the four different boxes under the photo

9. Copy (control C or from the menue) - sometimes this is not needed if you get the word "copied"

10. Go back to the thread you want a photo in and put the curser where you want the photo and paste (control V or from the menue)

11. You will get in the text a strange line of letters and numbers. These will show up as a pic in the thread.

12. There is a preview button to look at the post before you send it.

It takes some time to get the hang of this but it must be easy, I learned.

First establish an account with a photo Host, such as Photobucket.com, and then choose a name for a specific album (eg. MR Photos), within My Albums Whenever you wish to add photos to MR Photos, you then go to it from My Albums. You can add photos from a digital camera, or from a scanned photo or diagram. The sequence of photos in MR Photos can be edited, rearranged, or deleted. There will be four Tags below each photo. Click on the bottom IMG Tag of the photo that you wish to Post in the Trains.com thread (that you have created, or to a Reply) The word "Copied" will appear momentarily. Now go to the Thread that you have created, or as a Reply. Type in your Text and then click on "enter" , (to leave a space). When you then click on ctrlV , a lengthy code for the photo will appear. Now scroll down to "Post", and click on it. Your text and reduced photo will be added to the end of the Thread as a Reply (Or at the top as your own Thread) You can correct or delete your Thread by clicking on Edit, and editing or deleting. Then you again click on Post. This is not as complicated as it may seem. Adding that http://photobucket.com is an often used photo site, or you could link to your web site if you have one.

You must get an account on a webhost for images, upload your image files to the account there, and then provide an html link to the full-sized image by pasting it into your text message here.
