Way out of my usual era, but I'm going to have to get the Chessie Safety Express dome.
The most interesting excursion I ever rode was as dishwasher in the kitchen of the big dome on the Safety Express between Grand Rapids and St. Joseph, Michigan. 'worked alongside a couple of veteran Illinois Central diner cooks, George and Ben.
You don't realize just how much one of those cars rocks when you hit a rough grade crossing at speed until you've been drenched from the armpits down with dishwater. Repeatedly.
That trip was an experience I wouldn't trade for anything in the world.
