Hi from Belgium,
Modeling in Nscale, I use exclusively MT couplers.
I didn't use the drop in MT couplers in place of the Rapido ones if I can put a 1025 or similar box mounted MT coupler, because they couple an uncouple in a better way.
As far as possible, use only body mount couplers, it's better for fine operations in long string of cars, especialy in reverse.
So I suggest you, to body mount a 1025 MT coupler or a similar one; you need to erase the bottom of the caboose to put the coupler box.
Use a MT gauge to determine the right height of the coupler and if needed put a styrene shim to fit the coupler. Drill and tap a hole for the screw in the frame of the car.
Paint the area and the coupler in an appropriate colour.
Put a very little blow of "Grease Em" in the coupler shank.
Now the caboose is ready to be in operations.
Good luck.
Marc
I'm having trouble determining how (or which) MT couplers to install on Walthers N scale bay window caboose. The MT website specifies (2001) 00102050 long shank, but I cannot find these anywhere. Are they discontinued?
