The higher the VA rating of a pack the more current it can deliver.
As Georgiaboy pointed, some locos draw more current than others so you should know the
locos draw and the VA pack rating.

I use the 1440 for my layout. I normaly run 2 locos but somtime 3 locos.
I have never had any trouble with this pack.
My locos are a mix of Athearn, Model Power, Bachmann, Atlas and Kato so the only problems I have is matching the speeds of locomotives. As long as there speeds are close I have no problems.
If you try to draw more power than the it can supply the over load protection will kick out before any damage to the pack will happen.

There is no such thing as a bad day of railfanning. So many trains, so little time.

I agree with all of the above. However, you notice that MRC, Walthers, etc, don't say what kind of trains. I would like to point out that Athern (bluebox) engines draw a lot of power. When you go to run them together with your 1400, you will immediately notice a huge deduction of power. If you were running say two Atlas GP38s together, or maybe two Katos together, you would hardly notice any deduction at all. This is because they draw only a fraction of what Athern engines draw in power.

Though the Tech Il 1400 is a good power pack, it also has the least amount of power of all the power packs in the Tech ll line. Therefore you will need to make periodic checks on how hot it gets while running your two Atherns. My advice would be if you're going to run multi-Athern engines, then you really do need a larger power pack. You'll be very happily amazed at the end results.

Generally, locos of the same manufacturer, as in your case may be compatible in speeds.
Also the P1K- F3 A-B, C-liner A-B, Walters trainline F40PH double headers but the locos should have the same electrical draw. You wouldn't try and match up a P2K E7 with a P1K - F3 A. As James pointed out for things to operate smoothly your pack must be able to deliver sufficient current to all the locos to you are running. According to the MRC ad in Walthers your 1440 will handle 2-3 locos.

Don't assume this will work all the time, it won't.

The MRC Tech II line was designed to put out alot of power. When it was first premiered the ads showed a larg table of locomotives laid out claiming that the MRC Tech II Line could run all of those shown in the picture at once. So you are more than save with two locos on an MRC power pack.

Hey guys

I use a MRC Tech 2 railpower1440 and would like to know, Is it safe to run more than 1 engine at a time. I would like to couple 2 engines together but didn't know if this would overload the power pack. For reference the engines I would like to use together are Atheran F7A & B.
