Question about weathered and Graffiti covered rolling stock

They could be based on a real car. What I'm talking about is a Graffiti Artist (Friend of mine) doing miniture graffiti on rolling stock for people. As for the weathering, well it sounds like most people enjoy doing it themselves (can't blame them, I do too) but I still offer it to folks who want it done.

HI first time to get on the forum. I hit on this topic; as I am in the process of weathering about 80 freight cars for my own layout. Am having a ball doing it and with good results. Using soft pastels and doing it right over wet dullcote. Tried covering with the dullcote but it took too much of the colors away. Hit on the process of using a dry brush and streaking right into the wet dullcote. Color stands out and with several passes really looks blurred and natural. Use several different colors and differant brush for each color to simulate many types of weathering. When it is all dry there seems to be no change in the appearance of the dullcote. May go back at some later time and add light dusting with airbrush. Can do a car in about 10 minutes. So my answer is probaply not willing to buy ones already weathered.

Well I have a MDC hopper with graffiti and of course it has "MDC" all over it. I'd say NO since A. prices would go up B. More than likely the car wouldn't be based on a real car

WEathering and adding grafitti is great fun and i am sure there are people that would pay to have it done. As in this society there are people that will buy anything.

there are talented people among us who have mastered the art of true-to- prototype weathering and I am not one of them so when I see a magnificently weathered car for sale f.i. at a swap meet I buy it and I don't feel guilty about it.

Yes, I might be interested. I see rolling stock in videos and in person that has grafitti all over it. The SP (now UP) never washed or repainted anything, and sometimes the grafitti looked better than the original paint.

I can respect that about wanting to do it yourself. As for the business, well I have been doing it for 2 years now and I have plenty of satisfied customers. I also do Locos. Haven't had a bad apple yet, but that doesn't mean that I won't in the future.

After recently viewing all the articles posted about decals, graffiti, weathering etc. etc.. I have to ask: Would anyone purchase an RTR weathered and hand painted graffiti covered piece of rolling stock for a fair price? Is there a particular scale (other than the obvious "HO") that would have a higher demand for it?

Feed back or thoughts anyone?
