Hi.

Ref. my recent enquiry on replacement wheels.

Thanks to Mondo and Chuck for their excellent advice which was exactly what I wanted to know. They have saved me so much trouble thanks again fellows.

How lucky we are to have a hobby where people are so willing to share their knowledge and save their fellow modellers so much bother and expense, it is not the same in all walks of life. We are very fortunate !!.

Yes, Reboxx is the primary player in after market sets and they make many-many sizes.
Stock sizes vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and Reboxx recognized the problem.
They provide wheel sets in multiple lengths for freight-passenger & stream loco tenders.
Reboxx wheels are 0.088" wide rather than the more common 0.110" which is the only downside.
The RP 25 flange contour is retained
Replacing wheels sets isn't as simple as replacing couples with the standard KD#5 since
all wheels are not created equal.

For the benifit of viewers Reboxx has a three page 36" application chart, six page 33" application chart, one page brass wheelset chart, two page speciality application chart for steam loco tender and electric.

Don't forget, there are also 28", 33",36" & 38" size wheels and remember to use the truck tuner tool when upgrading.

It just so happens that I've recently upgraded the wheelsets on all my IHC passenger cars. I found the best replacements are metal wheels and axles supplied by Reboxx. You can find them on the web. For the IHC corrugated and smooth side cars, you need to use Reboxx's 33" wheels, number WS11015. For the Heavyweights, use the 36" wheels number WS3-1015. I know it sounds strange to use 33" wheels for passenger cars but the 36" wheels won't fit the trucks and the coupler height will be too high if you use 36" wheels. Trust me, the 33" wheels look fine and run great!

If you buy directly from Reboxx, you will pay $10.00 for a set of 12 axles. Type Reboxx into your search engine and you will find guys who sell the wheels for around $8.00 per set of 12. Believe me, these wheels are worth the cost, especially because they have the metal axles with needlepoint ends which enable them to roll freely AND the proper axle length to fit the "strange and less than standard" trucks made by IHC.

The most authoritative/expert on axle lengths is our own NIGEL, a master modeler.

He is your best source. Be patient, he will chime in

(There are just too many choices/exceptions ETC) Unfortunately there is no
uniformity or NMRA standard.

I have read a considerable number of Forum entries but have been unable to answer the following :

Will Proto 2000 36" wheels operate properly if used to replace the plastic wheels in IHC 's latest Heavyweight, Smooth Side and Corrugated Passenger Cars. I have quite a number of the cars and would like to upgrade them, as I live in England I do not want to import a bulk order of wheels unless I know they will run OK. I have tested P2K's 33" wheels which are fine for axle length but are too small, the axle length on Intermountain and KD's is too long. ?[?]

I would be very grateful for any info.

Does anyone know the best source for a bulk order ?
