Not much to contribute from me this time. Just tossing round some paint idea's for my freelance. Some of them you can tell where I got the influence from, and others you can REALLY tell where I got the influence from.

Some of them are a little big because I forgot to resize them in paint when I was done. Didn't even realize it untill I was posting the pics. Sorry. If anyone see's a pint scheme you like go ahead and copy it, although I do realize one or two of them look very much like one or two that already exists (on the real thing no less).

Today I was able to stop by and visit with Tim Dickinson who lives not far from me.  Tim has a 2 car garage/breezeway layout that is just amazing.  I actually found out about Tim by viewing this Youtube video and finding out that he lives close to me.  So today I was invited by Tim to come by and help out from now on.  There I also met Craig from BLMA and Paul from Details West who stop by often and have contributed much to the layout.

Here is the a link to the video taken by Craig at the beginning of the year.

Thanks Lothar.  Actually, I had previously painted the Es in that blue and grey scheme with 8 or 9 Rivarossi passenger cars in the early 90s.  I wanted to do something incorporating the YN3 colors so I stripped them and here we are.

I painted this Walthers Dynamometer car for my Central Atlantic RWY. I wanted it to look like car that spends most of it's time stored out back so I applied lots of weathering.

Got a bit more done on the hillside scenery yesterday and today.  While I was waiting for the glue to dry, I snapped a couple more photos of the area.

While this is still a work in progress, you can now see a definite cut in the tree line for the line poles coming up the hill.  As soon as foliage is added and some forest floor greenery and detritus, even more trees will be added to the front and edge of the layout here.

I've spent the last 2 weeks doing work on my engine fleet. First, a new roster shot:

And a close-up of the newest completed engine, WSOR 3807:

The work I did this week was: Paint the roofs of 702, 3808 and 3807 gray; re-number 702 in the correct lettering; renumber 3805 to 3807; and add sunshades to 207, 3808, and 3807. Next week, I should have my first SD40-2 ready to go.

And of course, great work everyone this week!

That turned out well, Terry.  I haven't consisted two steamers yet, but I did get my N&W FM Trainmaster shoving at the rear of a steamer drag and merely used the two throttles on the DT400 to get them matched for effort.  It worked slickly and quickly.  No need to consist or match speed tables at all.

Rivarossi hit a home run with the H-8, don't you think?

-Crandell

Thanks Crandell

I used 2 UT-4 throttles and it got a bit dicey when the T-1 got the hiccups

Yes the Rivarossi H-8 is the most detailed non brass loco on the market

a real beauty

I wonder how many they sold

HOn3 Drop Bottom Gondola...Ready for Paint.

Phew...I think I got most of the parts close to where they are supposed to be, no easy feat considering there are over 200 parts on a car smaller than a stick of butter.

I'm switchin' to O scale...

I just recently took the time (15 minutes) to learn how to MU / Consist with Digitrax using two 2-8-0s, needless to say I've yet to split them.  It's incredibly easy and once you do it I bet you'll find yourself doing it all the time.

Is it QSI or Tsunami ?

Thanks, Everyone.  Terry, it is actually an ESU LokSound v. 3.5.  The engine is the PCM version of the Y6b, and PCM used the LokSound exclusively...I think...for all their offerings.

-Crandell

Soon as I heard the engine Crandell I knew it was a PCM Y6-b! With the right speakers Terry, Tsunami has nothing on the 3.5 LokSound decoder. My is still running strong.

 Cuda Ken

Well it sounds good

The Y6 must have better speakers

Terry, yes the speakers and enclosures make all the differences. This is what the insides of a PCM Big Boy tender looks like.Y6-b looks the same except the speakers are bigger yet.

Reason I know was I was trying to swap them into my Big Boy before I bought the Big Boy's speakers.(I bought my PCM Big Boy with out sound and Terry gave me his old H-8 loksound decoder, I had the Big Boy sound files loaded by Ulrich Model)

Y6-b still sounds a little better, but Big Boy sound pretty darn good!

Bad video of the Big Boy, but sound came out pretty good.

 http://s83.photobucket.com/albums/j284/cudaken/?action=view&current=BigBoySound.flv

Yes I know it looks stupid on the 22 inch turn, it now only drag's freight on the A line with 26 inch turns.

The other summer project was creating some passenger units from old Model Power, (Rocco powerd) units I've had for years.  Some date to the late 70s when they were the only game in town, (in the context of early AHM units had a funky nose profile and no fly wheels).  Began stripping them 4 years ago and then stopped.

Began in earnest last month adding grabs, side rails, filled the pilots, etc.  This is my interpretation of what CSX should be using to pull their business trains.  Not all the details are installed as I am figuring out the most efficient way to install KDs.

The b-units are detailed Rivarossi with new wheel sets and KDs. Aso in process are 3 highlymodified Atlas FP7s and another E-8 in SP bloody nose.

 Great stuff so far!

Bent sheet metal at the crossing. A '67 Mustang was rear ended by the fire chief's fully restored antique '68 Ford Galaxy 500. A close look at the Black and gold Mustang will reveal something you won't see on one you buy from Hot Wheels.

I have some airbrusing and decaling to do this weekend, but that's not even started yet, so I'll post this for now. Adapted from the sign CSX posts at every railroad crossing with Adobe Photoshop CS4. I suppose I should have rasterized the text before using the free transform tool to resize, skew, and move the text into position on the sign, since it's a bit choppy, but I didn't... Maybe I'll fix it...someday...

Agreed.  Also, nice job on the WLE GP35 with B trucks, Robbie. I have several WLE shots from Berea I would be happy to email if you need them.

I have been struggling with the north end mountains for weeks and finally said, "What the heck, at least do something."  One of the complications was accommodating screen supports to protect the railroad from the summer Sun.  Again, enough analysis and plans, move off dead center.

The foreground has yet to be completed but the background is a bout 98% done.  Need to dry brush a little hear and there.
