Bergie - Crappy forum performance
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, May 4, 2004 9:07 PM
Both here and at Atlas the forums are taking a long time to down load. I think it is a Snitzl thing, but it has been bad at both forums. And just to let you know, I also complained in the Atlas Admin site. Its been going on for around 24 hours or more and its beginning to get to the irritating stage..... and I'm on cable. I can't imagine what it must be like with some on dial up.[:o)]

It's either a problem with your computer or your local internet service. I would see how many programs your running and if you can close any down but it definitly sounds like a computer problem. I haven't had trouble but if anyone else tthat tis please post so maybe if it is a message board problem they can fix it.

Boy, with my first computer I could go downstairs and make a cup of coffee before the home page downloaded, amazing how fast we get spoiled.

Too many people including digital photographs in their signatures doesn't help any. I have noticed that when there are 4 or 5 members on this forum viewing posts with photos, it sometimes gets very slow, even with a cable modem.

I shudder to think what it would be like to go back to an Atari computer with a 300 baud modem, when I could type faster than the computer could send the text, and you could read the text as it slowly scrolled onto the screen.

The bad performance is spotty, but today it took a couple of minutes for this forum to download. I haven't done anything new to the computer or added anything except for virus definition updates. It is also the same in Atlas, and there I'm not the only one complaining.

IMO bad performing forum and Internet might be an US Internet and network problem,
I used: http://www.numion.com/index.html
to test the actual speed of my internet connection to US sites, wich was half the speed (300K) as sites where i live ( netherlands ).(620K )
this site you can use to test the REAL speed of the internet by measuring the connectionspeed between your PC and actual websites, and not the speed of the connection to your ISP ( in my case 1024K )
this low connection speed could be caused by virus activity ( e.g. Sasser ) causing network traffic and congestion.
