I added truck lights to a couple engines. I just drilled a small hole in the frame as close to the edge as possible. At the time, I used some micro bulbs and glued them in the hole with just the tip of the lense protruding.

I had to play with resistor values to get it to look right - you want to see it, but not illuminate the track for 50 feet in all directions !

In most cases, the cab / battery box assembly makes for an open area above the frame to allow the wires to be run.

Mark.

I recall an artical from the early to mid 90's about detailing Rock Island GP7's. He included truck lights in the build and I thought it was a pretty cool effect. With todays micro LED's available, it shouldn't be too hard of a job to add them.

There was a photo in Model Railroader's Gallery feature back in the mid/late '90s (I want to say 1997, but I'm not sure) where someone had added ground lights to an O scale (I think?) Alco FA unit. I think it was Rock Island.

If someone can confirm/correct this information, it would be great.

Does anyone out there add truck lights (if that's the right terminology) to their model diesels?  I think if this was done well, it would give the models a more realistic appearance, espcecially during dusk to nighttime operations.  Photos anyone?
