Proper care for engines
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, April 29, 2004 6:15 PM
What is the best way to care for my N Scale engines? Do I need to oil or lube them at any certain interval? What about keeping them clean? Thanks, Mike

Bump?
Well, first of all, you'd only need to lubricate them every other year or so, you get big problems when you over lubricate. To keep them clean, just swab a Q tip soaked in track cleaner on the wheels. Also keep the track clean, too.

Hi Mike
All of the care and maintainance information should be in the manufacturers instructions.
As cjm89 states more problems have been caused by over rather than under lubricating.
I would add keep it in its box when not in use, handle carefully on "N" those small details are Very fragile and only stand it on its wheels when its on the track "N" is wery sensative too dirt.

Good maintenance is a must for long lasting and trouble free running locomotives!!
I clean and service mine every 90 days due to club use...I don't use grease but a ltiny drop of oil here and there..Now not bragging, but all of my locomotives including my Athearns will creep from tie to tie..
