Info: Bergie departing from Kalmbach on May 4th
Posted by steinjr on Saturday, April 25, 2009 12:13 PM

Some of you may already have seen this, but just in case you haven't : according to a thread on the Trains Magazine general forum, Bergie (Erik Bergstrom - the web- and forum-master at Kalmbach) will be leaving Kalmbach on May 4th, to take a new job as webmaster for a food site - Reader's Digest's http://TasteOfHome.com.

Erik has done a lot of work over a long time to keep these forums up and running, and while I wish him good luck in his new job, it is sad indeed to see him depart.

If you want to leave a farewell message for him, I suggest you click on the first link above and leave the message in the trains.com general forum.

  Stein

Bergie, good luck with the new job!  Their gain is our loss.  You have done an excellent job of keeping this place going strong and in keeping this place a great place to post and visit.  I hope the tradition will be continued by whoever takes this on.

Best wishes to you!

I also posted on the other forum. I would also like to extend my congratulations on my normal forum. I am relatively new here and I must say there is a reason I chose these forums to participate in. The people yes, but Bergie's guidance has alot to do with it too.

Thanks Bergie, and good luck!!

Im confused. I thought Erik liked trains...and was a model railroader. Why would he leave the dream job for another website?

Hey Bergie, As a model railroader who also likes to cook, I hope you'll drop by the old MR forums and maybe slip us a recipe - call it something like "an authentic dining car classic" and no one will ever know if it's not. I do feel that you've done great work on these forums and my opinion is that this ongoing internet conversation may be among the best things that have happened to our hobby. Best wishes.

Lather, while I have plenty that I could say to you, I think I'll take the high road and wish you luck in the future.

And enjoy your film camera. You are using a film camera still, right? And how's your rotary phone? (It's called progress, and I know it's not easy for everyone.)

I'll really miss your expertise in everything.

Thank you to everyone for your kind comments. It's this type of feedback and has made my decision a difficult one.

To Coburn's point, sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone and take on a new challenge in life. Plus, I also love food, so it's not like I'm stepping into something that I have absolutely zero interest in.

I'm sure I'll be around here from time to time. In the mean time, thank you all for your positive contributions to our forums. I've tried to set a tone in our forum where anyone of any skill level can feel comfortable asking questions and sharing experiences. Many of the policies we have in place are the result of input from our users, so you've had a much large impact on the site than you may realize.

In the future, please stay cordial to one another (i.e. avoid the type of cheap-shot jabs like Lather just threw in my direction) and continue to use the Report Abuse feature to help our moderators keep abreast of problems.

Take care,
Erik

 Hey Bergie!

Don't forget to come visit us in the diner.  We can always use some new recipes over there and I know the gang would love to hear what you might be doing on the MR front.
