HO-Intermountain wheel sets
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, October 8, 2001 2:34 PM
I just substituted the intermountain ball bearing non-insulated HO wheel set on my new HO-Walthers 85'budd passenger car and yes, there's a big difference in free rolling ability. The intermountain unit was parked at the peak of an atlas 3" trestle set(2.6 grade) and with a burst of my own hot air, the car just sailed down the grade.
The Walthers set just stalled. I did not test the intermountain non-ball bearing versus their ball bearing which may or may not justify the premium price. This added set already added to a pricey car
makes this a expensive car.

I haven't had any experience with the Intermountain wheel sets, but I have had difficulty with the stock wheels on much of my rolling stock. At this point I have been using the Proto 2000 wheels. They work great.

I too have had good luck with the Proto 2000 Box Carkits that come with their own wheel sets and I have heard from other sites that the proto wheels are better than the kadee sets. The wheel sets that came with my Spectrum and Rivarossi passenger cars had too much wheel drag, so I sold the cars. This time around I started at the top of the line, not very prudent and makes my total cost expensive.
