Building a protolanced industrial park layout
I got some new equipment during the weekend:
Those cars are all athearn kits. I don't have metal wheels on the tank cars since the P2K and branchlines don't fit. Looks like I'll have to get some that will fit.
A pair of Atlas SD24s. The UP one originally had sound, but now it's under the BN one. Don't know what I'll do with the UP one. I've though about using it to make the one SD24 that BN chopped the nose on and using it as a transfer engine; however, I'm leaning towards selling it off.
While I was in pensacola (car show, I have pictures of that too), I came across an actual BN caboose on some abandoned track:
If it's still there next time I'm in the area, I'll ask the people at the buisness near it if it's okay to go on their property to get closer (and maybe on it)

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Here's what I've been up to recently... Trackwork...
After I finished all that, I took a break and made some scrap metal loads.
Then I commenced training my youngest engineer...
This was right before the train stalled on the grade, when I ran my Atlas U23B over to give the train a shove up the pass. No problems on the new trackwork (a real joy to me!) and there were no derailments save for one caused by excessive speed (the OTHER way makes the train go slower, Andy!) and when we went right off the end of track in as-yet-unfinished New Poland... Which reminds me of how my next free weekends will be spent!
Tv looks great! Thanks for the help on Saturday! I hope to take a picture of the new Walthers Built Transfer Table and post. Looks like alot of modeling done this week! Great work.
cwclark Another good WPF. I did some 1:1 modeling in the train room this weekend. The layout was being exhibited over the weekend in Nottingham. I didn't see the Sheriff but did have a great time.
The new fiddle yard turntables worked better than I'd expected and really improved the operation of the whole layout

Tom, all I can suggest is to spray the major brick color; mask off and spray secondary colors (like the storefront that is stone or any painted brick), then get out the paintbrushes to do all those windows. It may be tedious, but the end result will please. I am working on the same kit now, but am cutting it up to use the building fronts as a background flat and the backs as the buildings "across the street". It's been on the shelf for a couple of weeks due to other priorities; I need to get back to it.

John, thanx for your kind words. I certainly don't have a patent on white walls so you wouldn't be "stealing" the idea, LOL! Doing ads or graffitti might be a bit of a challenge because the mortar lines are so much deeper on a model brick surface than on a prototype building, I've never attempted it but I'm sure somebody has.

Thank you Tin Man, glad they had that effect on you! I'm a little embarrassed to admit, I made that corner store front 'vacant' because of all the windows showing the bare interior – I’m just not ready to do all the extra work necessary to fix it up. Maybe someday...
Ray - I really like your 1925 rendition of Merchants Row, especially the multi-colored brick facade on the end/corner unit! I see a lot of brick buildings that look exactly like that even nowadays.

Well finally some progress on the layout! Sorry about the pic its a bit blurry, batteries in the camera must be going dead. Its a good feeling to get the trains off the floor and about eye level!
Nothing new to post this week (the one thing I didn't get was any photos of anything today). But Ken's city block looked very familiar.......... The Merchant's row is a very nice kit. I found mine right behind the bandstand in the park. just the other side of the street as a matter of fact.

Don, I tried to re-orient the text with tags, but it doesn't seem to have accomplished anything. I see the images when I go into "edit", as you must, but I can't figure out why the server won't post the images when I save the changes and return to the normal view.

Will.I.AmtrakThis is a Athearn Sd40T-2 I weathered from an internet photo of the real thing. Compared to the picture I was very pleased by the end results. The first pic was before obviously. The second picture is when I faded the paint down to the color from the picture and the third picture is after it was fully weathered.
I'm not sure why your photos aren't showing up.
I added the IMG and /IMG brackets before and after your photo link. It appears to work for me on your first photo.

If you have your photos in a hosting site such as Photobucket, it is easy to post here. In Photobucket, you may copy the "IMG" into the forum. Please ask if you have questions, and you will have several willing members answering. There are many good people here.
