CBQ_Guy,
Paul, in case someone doesn't provide an explicit answer, there are, I think some 756 groups in the Yahoo Trains and Railroad directory:
http://dir.groups.yahoo.com/dir/Hobbies___Crafts/Models/Trains_and_Railroads
Some of them don't have a large membership, but are nevertheless good. If you have the time, you might find several that interest you.

Clinchvalley,

I'm looking for railroad INDUSTRY specific groups on Yahoo. NOT a specific RAILROAD group.
The Paper Mill group, for example, was mentioned. I wonder if something like Petroleum, Lumber, Meat Packing, Chemical INDUSTRY related, etc. Yahoo Groups, specifically relating to railroad operations, exists.

There is an excellent chat group on Yahoo devoted to Paper Mill Modeling.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PaperMillModelers/

Lots of info and ideas.

I wasn't aware of this group. Do you know of any other railroad industry specific groups on Yahoo? In general, I know ot the railroad industry SIG group, which is now combined with the railroad operations group at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Ry-ops-industrialSIG/?yguid=154581698

The only other ones I know of remotely related to a specific industry is the model intermodal group at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/modelintermodal/?yguid=154581698

...and the milk trains group at:

http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/milktrains/?yguid=154581698

And that's it.

There are many railroad specific groups (FEC, Chessie, N&W, SRR, etc.) Are there any you are looking for in particular? There is also groups for just about any specific area of modeling (electronics, weathering, decals, gears, etc.) and of course each of the DCC systems has groups.

CP5415,
Gordon, I did an Index of Magazines search on an earlier paper mill thread:
http://www.trains.com/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10714
Perhaps one of the mills covered in those articles will be a good fit for the space you have. if you do a "Search the forums ..." search using paper mill as the search term you will find some other threads to supplement the Yahoo groups others have cited.

Gordon,

The Walthers kit makes an excellent starting point, but there are several things you could add to make it really interesting.

Back in the spring of 1998, the Railroad Industrial SIG toured a paper mill in northwestern PA during our annual meet. Jim Hediger was there and he wrote an excellent article in MR within the following year (sorry, I can't remember the exact issue, but if you email Jim he can tell you). We saw structures and machinery that Walthers doesn't even hint at, and these wouldn't take up too much space on your layout either.

My neighbor has an N scale Walthers paper mill on his layout. The only problem we had was that they don't make the rotary dumper in N scale and I had to build one from scratch.

We also added some other items to the area to give more depth to the scene. I'd be happy to email some pictures if you'll send your email address. It never hurts to see what others have done.

Did you only want a kit? What about scratch building one? There is a very interesting mill on the old Algoma Easten RR./CPR now Huron Central at Espanola on Hwy 6 betweem Sudbury and Little Current.

I have a space 3' x 2' for this industry & I don't have a problem with buying the Walthers one.
Anyone have any suggestions, reviews or ideas for one?

Thanks
