Athearn handrails have always been an exercise in futility to get them on straight, and stay on. The only solution I have found is a small amount of CA in the stanchion loop where the handrail passes through it to keep the stanchion upright. CA messes up the plastic if you try to use it to attach the stanchions to the locomotive. I haven't found a solution to this problem yet.

I've had problems with this before. A quick snip, a twist & I had the problem fixed.

I have had problems in the past with the handrails, back when I had HO in the 80s. I thought they had corrected these things but I guess not.

Got another Athearn SD40T-2 today. I tried to assemble it, the handrails are very inexact and donĀ“t fit the engine. I know, there are short and long stanchions, but thats not the problem. I must shortened some of the handrailwire that it will fit the stanchions. I have two other tunnel motors, where i had no problems with mounting the handrails. Anyone else knows this problem?
