About 20+ years ago, one of the now defunct publications (Railroad Modeler maybe) had an article in which they showed a layout with drop in scenic modules. The modules were built on a sheet of plywood and could be dropped into corresponding holes in the benchwork. The suggested it as a way to era shift. One example I remember was a grain elevator which on one module was built to look fairly new and the same kit on another module looking weather beaten and rundown. I think other examples had older structures replaced with new ones.
I've never scene removeable backdrops but see no reason why it couldn't be done and it probably has been done by some. It could be done to provide access to a hard to reach area or it could be done to shift geographical location, much the way the scenic modules were used to shift eras.
Hello.
Has anyone seen or know of layouts with removeable backdrops or scenic blocks?
I'm considering a 5x9 table. I want to put a backdrop a the 4' mark so that behind it would be a foot of space for staging.
Any info, help is greatly appreciated.
