The toggle switch itself should operate as follows (well 99% of the time, I have found a few that are reversed). Moving the bat handle up, the middle terminal and the bottom terminal should be closed. Moving the bat handle down, the middle terminal and the top terminal should be closed.

One of your power wires will connect directly to the wire that was connected to the middle terminal of the set of three on the original Atlas switch. The other power wire will connect to the middle terminal of the SPDT switch. The two wires that were connected ot the outside terminals of the set of three on the original switch will connect to the outside terminals of the SPDT switch.

wiring momentary spdt toggle switch
Posted by Placho on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 4:23 PM

I'm in the process of remodeling my HO control panel. Currently I'm using Atlas turnout switches and I want to change them to toggle switches. My problem is the Atlas switch actually has 5 wiring points (3 for switching - 2 for power), while the momentary spdt toggle switch only has 3 places to connect wiring and this is where I got lost. Does anyone know how to wire the momentary toggle switch?
