Realizing I've stated this on the other thread a week after Mr. Harmon posted it I thought I had to reply to Mr. Harmon's post.

If anyone can give me one last thought to solve my Big Boy pick up problem please tell me, or it's the graveyard for 4005[:0] or Maybe a Super Eight 4-8-6!

My best running is my HO Rivarossi UP FEF-3. Smooth, quiet, and with the traction tire equipped it can pull the bumper off a chevy.[:D][;)] Yes, if anyone is thinking about getting this loco, don't hesitate. The headlight has a nice, bright, white glow and it's almost blinding!

I'll second that, an excellent engine bar none, in close second would be the Allegheny where as at the bottom of the heap would be my Rivarossi Big Boy, Coming to a scrap heap near you[:(]

Fergie....I thought you were repowering that badboy..I mean bigboy....

It has been repowered, unfortunately the old gal still bumps, grinds, burps and jerks! I have hauled it apart, stripped it, cleaned it and discovered that old Rivarossi power pick ups are less then adequate, the number of contact points are primitive (Flintstone like). I also discovered that because of BB's weight distribution that it doesn't want to climb hills as the wheels don't seem to flow into the transition areas with ease. I'd show you a picture of what I'm thinking of doing with the wheel sets but I'm still setting up a web page. The BB might be turned into scale anchors for my scale Fleet of Trans Atantic Steamers[:0]

Sorry to hear (read) that...

I guess it peaked my interest because I've been rebuilding a bunch of my older stuff. The artificial reef idea is good, but the HO scale environmentalists may take issue unless you clean it up good. Or park it on the pier, chock it and say it is shoreside steam for your freighters...

Thanks for the reply...

Fergmiester, you could do what the movie industry did to old non working steamers, needed to star in numerous movies:
let a diesel disguised as a boxcar or a caboose shove it around the lay-out!
