These wheel sets work great in athearn, roundhouse, walthers, as well several other manufactures trucks. As far as their other products I like them very much. I have a large amount of their rolling stock and I am always very pleased with the quality.

I upgraded my budd wheel sets to IM ball bearing and non ball bearing. The original stock set
had the worst wheel drag I ever experienced, but that was the original release.

LBF Company (http://www.lbfcompany.com) has been around for several years - they began with the molds for the former E&C Shops line. They're a cut above Accurail, MDC and Athearn, but the LBF cars I have aren't as finely-detailed as Athearn Genesis, Kadee or P2K. The cars I have are all ex-E&C Shops tooling, so they have probably improved.

LBF wheels have metal axles and seem to work well. I buy P2K wheels and paint them myself, but haven't changed out the wheels on my LBF cars as of yet.

I'm very interested. I'm currently using Proto 2K on freight cars and am going to try IM on my passenger cars. My LHS carries KD, P2K, IM metal wheelsets. The P2Ks and the IMs seem to be his best sellers.

The only place I've ever seen LBF is on this forum. I would like to read from modelers using this brand. Anyone know what "LBF" stands for?

With all the different rolling stock manufacturers out there, one cannot over do the question
about metal wheel sets.
I have never heard or seen the name LBF posted. But I'm not up to speed.
Regardless of your final selection try and determined the axle length and that the replacement
ends have the same profile as the stock set with the same thread widths.

When you say"solid metal" does that include the axle? IMs do.

Hi Guys,
I don't mean to over-do the question about metal wheelsets but I was informed by a fella responding to my first post on this subject that there are metal wheelsets made by LBF. Their website is LBFcompany.com.

I never heard of LBF but was pleasantly surpriced when I went to their website and discovered that their wheelsets are solid metal with needle-point metal axles, insulated on one side. I was even more suprised to see that they are already made to look "rusty" on the sides. One problem I have with Intermountain's and Proto 2000's is that they need to be weathered on the sides to look more prototypical.

My question here is whether any of you have experience with these wheels. Are they as free-rolling as Intermountain's or Proto 2000's? Are they gauged properly and is the quality like Intermountain's? Certainly, the price is comparable to Intermountain's. In fact, I found a guy selling them for under $40.00 per 100 axles which makes them very affordable.
