- Did you guys remember to hook those lights up to the dimmer? Does it flash at a grade crossing?

- Even with the dimmer it'll still be seen from miles away while sitting on a siding...

- You pointed the headlight the wrong way, it's suppose to be facing the tracks not the engine!!

- Can you hear a passing engineer now "What the ---- is THAT???!!!!???"

- Safety First! If you can't hear it well, you'll definatly SEE it.

- Great for long exposures while going by at top speed.

- "The Good Loco Lolly Pop"???????

- So that's where all my Christmas lights went....

Believe it or not, there actually is such a thing as a steam-electric locomotive. This is an E3/3 type engine. Two of these were built in Switzerland in 1942. Instead of having a firebox, the boiler was heated by electricity.

I've seen tram engines that had a gas or deisel engine AND a pantograph for overhead electric wires. The engine was intended so the engine could operate beyond the reach of the wires on spurs and industrial branches where none had been installed.

This just looks INSANE, I keep thinking how many crews were fried when they added water to it and it overflowed grounding the crews the second they raisde the pantogragh. Or how much arcing from the overhead wire down thru the steam in the exhaust to the engine took place. I know it probably never happens but it would scare the willy's out of me!

because electricity in europe was cheaper than coal and internal combustion engines were still novalties. actuallybthis wasn't just performed in europe, there were a few here in the US that did the same thing. and in reality it was a natrual progression that would have took hold if not for the fact that diesel engines became more reliable and cheaper.
