Milepost 38 is by far my favorite train shop. And it's super close to my house as well.
They have every scale, and can order pretty much anything you would need if they don't have it in stock.
I like that they have their Thomas stuff separated from the rest of the store. So the little kids can play on one side of the store while the rest of us little kids can play on the other side
May not be the closest to the convention center, but it is going to be the best you'll find in the area. And you can railfan a bit since the BNSF transcon is very close by.

Train Crossing in Costa Mesa
The owner (who had suffered one or more strokes) has since died, his wife has retired, and the store is now run by their son. [The older man was harmless but did give the wrong impression.] His wife, now retired, was very pleasant and knowledgable.
Not taking away from the others, but it's a good store too, and also worth checking out for your needs.
The closest shop to the convention center is The Toy Train Shop on Lincoln Avenue east of Euclid. Nice people and lots of dusty old stock. You might find some old treasure but you're not likely to find any new releases. A 15 minute drive out to Anaheim Hills (La Palma Avenue east of Imperial Highway) will get you to the best shop in the area: Milepost 38 Trains. Very nice staff and well stocked shop in all scales. No old treasures but all the latest stuff. A similar length drive to Westminster will get you to Arnie's Trains (Edwards Avenue south of Westminster Blvd.). Arnie's has a pretty good mix of new and old but I've always received mixed reactions from the staff. Yet another short drive south to Costa Mesa is the Train Crossing (Baker Street east of Fairview Avenue). I haven't been to this one in years because the owner was one of those crotchety old guys that burned a hole through you with his eyes the minute you walked in the door! I don't know if he is still there. There's the Whistle Stop up in Pasadena, the revised version of Allied Trains in Culver City and another shop in the San Dimas area I haven't been to. Lot's of choices around here. Yeah, we're rather spoiled! I guess I won't mention those about 30 minutes further away heh, heh!

Hi, this is my first time posting. I will travelling to Anaheim CA for work next week and was looking for suggestions for some good train shops not to far away from the Anaheim Convention Center. I do have wheels.
Any suggestions would be appreciated
