Looking for ideas ...

I've dabbled with HO for most of my life, but never have actually got around to building a permanent layout. Now I find I have the time, inclination, and cash to start looking at it seriously. My wife is a floral designer, and is ready to serve as scenic designer for whatever we come up with. I'm more interested in operations, and that's what this post is about.

I've read numerous articles about various freight and passenger handling systems, but the articles often assume a rather high level of knowledge on the readers part and I'm having a hard time getting a clear picture of how they actually work. I've ordered the Armstrong book in the hopes that it will fill in the missing context for me.

What I'd really like to do is locate some people local to me (southwestern CT) and arrange for visits ;)  I don't see regional forums here, can anyone suggest a way to contact other model railroad people?
