Some decoders will only accept commands in Paged mode. You need to look up your decoder type on the Digitrax Web site to determine what modes it can or cannot be programmed in.
Quoting from the Digitrax Mobile Decoder User Manual, "Digitrax systems default to the "paged" programming method. Paged programming is the most commonly used programming method and is the Digitrax preferred method for programming."

Thanks CACOLE...I changed CV29 to a value of 7 and it worked. Now I have to figure out why the decoder won't accept commands in direct mode.

Or, you could reverse the leads on the motor.

CV29 is the one that needs to be changed. This CV controls four different functions of the decoder, including the number of speed steps used, whether or not the engine will run in analog (DC) mode, the direction of travel, and whether you use a 2 or 4 digit address.
For a 4-digit address (numbers of 100 or above), 28/128 speed steps, no analog conversion (DCC operation only), and normal (forward) direction of travel, the value programmed into CV29 needs to be 32. If the locomotive still runs backwards, program CV29 with a value of 33.
If you're using only a 2 digit address (between 1 and 99), then the values for CV29 would be 12 for forward, 13 for reverse direction.
The value of 6 that you currently have in CV29 means 28/128 speed steps, analog conversion ON (will run on either block DC or DCC), Forward direction, 2 digit address. If you want to keep everything except the direction set to these values, program CV29 with a value of 7.
The locomotive running backwards with a value of 6 in CV29 indicates that the wires from the decoder to the motor are reversed -- but that's really no big problem since CV29 can be changed to correct this.

I have a engine with a digitrax decoder run on a CHIEF DCC system
When I try to program it on DIRECT,I get a no dec message But I can ,and did program it under "PAGED".But now "foward" and "reverse"are wrong.Which CV do I use to get the engine to run in the right direction? CV 29 is now set to 6,and is the only CV that I have changed other than the address.
