colorful repaint refugees

all railroads have them. those collorful repaint locomotives that have retierd or sold to a different RR. i think the the katy had a wide colorful collection of locomotives.
so whats your thought on these "refugees" and do they give a more uniqe look to a railroad or a model railroad???

My favorite; the Arizona and California.

I've seen a number of small, spin off roads in which, IMHO, had "gut wrenching" paint schemes on the locomotives. However, as far as paint schemes go A & C is a Class Act! On the website are pictures that you click on and can expand. SD45 #4001 is a beauty!

This is one railroad that some modelers might find attractive due to the roster of "refugee locomotives". I've never seen any pictures of A & Z models so this might be a consideration for modelers that want something different, yet prototype.

I know little about this road other than it was a Santa Fe "spin off" in the late 80s. Good to see it's still around. The look deserves a big "thumbs up". [swg][tup]

probally the most common refugees are the ex Conrail GP-38's and 40's

The Katy also had former ICG and Kennecott Copper units. Very colorful, even if most of the ICG units hadn't seen a wash rack in years, the Kennecott units (yellow) were GP39-2s if memory serves correctly--they were originally built with taller cabs than standard but refitted with standard cabs once the Katy got ahold of them.
