I just recently sent Athearn an e-mail asking to replace a coupler cover plate on my F units. However, they sent me coupler pockets (?) I emailed them again, describing the part I needed a little better. All of the little parts that are prone to breaking on our models, most companies will replace for free, even the postage. I think I would do what orsonroy said and buy another SD9 for that cheap. Then if you ever broke anything on the model again, you'd have replacement parts from your old motor drive and chassis.

My Frisco 4 8 2 Mountain came straight out of the box brand new with a broken piece. It was part of the bell bracket. A very small and minor part. I never thought about sending it in for warrenty work.

It is a Spectrum (Bachmann). I don't think I will send it back, I actually got it at the Great American Train Show last year when it was here.

But thanks for posting this, it has opened my eyes about warranties. [:)]

Life Like does sell replacement parts, but they sometimes take a LOOOONNNNGGG time to show up (most mnufacturers these days don't keep much of a parts inventory). If you can't get parts from Life Like, you might want to look at Trainworld's website. They've got SD-9's on sale for $39. Just swap shells.

I don't know about life like, but for my walthers engine I knocked off the end of the table, I sent it in with a ten dollar check, and the fixed it and returned the check even. It shows you there still are companies who will honor lifetime warrentys free.

I would call Life Like, They sell replacement parts, hell, I got a whole new can motor for a proto I bought off ebay. $25 though. Still they have the parts you need, no it's not dead, just has a few broken bones. And yes they kindly paid the postage. [:)]

LifeLike Proto 2000 engines have a lifetime warranty; however, I don't think it will cover damage caused by falling off of a layout. It wouldn't hurt to phone them and ask, though. When I had an electrical short cause the front truck plastic frames to melt and get distorted, they sent me free replacements, no questions asked. They even paid the postage!

for now I have some old flex track stapled on the side guess I have to email liflike for the parts or do thay service the engins

The dangers hard flooring poses to helpless little super-detailed engines. That will hurt, both the poor little model and your wallet. Maybe you should add a clear plastic guardrail to the edge of your layout now.

oh boy did I kill it It fell of the layout and snaped the front driver off wire rioed out and I dont see parts on life likes web site is my SD9 dead will that part cost a ton of cash
