I was referring to the dark blue and gold scheme with white roof. I purchased one and it is very black. Only in certain light can you detect a bluish cast. To my eye it doesn't look like the ones going by. Paint fade doesn't explain the difference since that would occur gradually and would affect some parts of the locomotive more than others. It is a beautiful model and runs great, but I am disappointed in the color.

Marv Deats may be referring to the "C&O wannabe" paint scheme with the overall dark blue body with the cream colored yellow nose and lettering. Cab roofs are white.
Marv,
Proto so far has been pretty good as far as matching paint schemes.
One thing to always keep in mind. If you look closely at groups of prototype locomotives from various railroads, you'll see slight color variations within the same paint scheme.
Paint fade, and the particular shop or division repainting units can make a difference.
At times, colors won't precisely match factory formulas, but in commercial transportation, managers aren't usually too picky. [4:-)]
Don't worry too much about the color match.[;)]
I remember seeing a prototype picture of a batch of 5 CNW locomotives. 3 units were greenish yellow, 2 units were orange yellow. Had me scratching my head. [%-)]

I road on CSX lines from Albany, NY, to NYC and then back on Tuesday via Amtrak and if you are referring to the engine pictured below, then yes it does match. Saw quite a few actually. Including 3 or 4 full size freight trains on the other side of the Hudson River on the way back upstate.
All of them had at least 2 engines, and one of them was easily a mile long and had 3 engines. That was reallyy cool to see. There were also quite a few on the Amtrak side of the river that matched this scheme and there were a few others with slightly different variations.

Has anyone seen the SD50 by Proto 2000 in the newest CSX color scheme? Do you think it matches the prototype?
