My only problem is, with my available space, I'd have to build it all 'backwards'. My space is L shapoed, with the short leg to the left looking towards the wall. The actual area would require the short leg to go away from me, not come towards me - with my space the quarry would be to the south of the plant which would be to the south of the spur feeding it, when in reality they are reversed, witht he quarry the northernmost part of the complex. Ah well, perhaps I can design it such that it could be reversed when I have a different/larger area to work with.

The book I found on Google with pictures and all is in stock at the local Barnes & Noble - so I know where I am going tomorrow.

I just love when that happens. I can remember some stuff from the 60s that was old then -- and such remnants that suggest more than what's apparent now. Local historical societies and libraries can be helpful, although there are some great research tools that are on-line.

All this time, I had thought the big old hole int he ground near where I used ot live was merely a quarry.

Was I wrong! It was the quarry portion of a FULL BLOWN CEMENT PLANT! Built in 1907 and it lasted until 1971, so having it on my mid-50's era layout is just perfect. The 1957 track arrangment is pretty well shown on historical maps from Maptech. And there's a digitized book on Google that has two photos of the overall plant.

I think I know what I am going to do with my modules now... I just need to find another Walthers cement plant.
