 Note that they are not 1:87 scale, they are bigger.

If you're referring to the Japanese models, the Tenshodo Series 500 is HO scale, as are the old Lima/Playart models. The KTM and Endo models are HOj, or 1:80th scale.

The European-made models of trains such as the TGV, ICE, AVE and Thalys are all 1:87th scale - why do you think otherwise?

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find an HO scale Shinkansen, TGV or Bullet train?  I've searched and can only find models being sold in Japan.

Your choices for HO scale Shinkansen stock are very limited. The only recent model was a joint production made by Tenshodo and Bachmann, representing a Series 500 "Nozomi" train. They are not currently in production.

Many years ago, Lima made a Series 0 train, which was fairly basic. This model was also marketed by Playart. They sometimes pop up on eBay, but they need a lot of work to bring them up to an acceptable standard.

KTM and Endo have produced Shinkansen trains in brass, but these were limited runs made years ago, and are now very hard to find, and very expensive.

You would be better off looking for Shinkansen models in N scale, as almost all of the different types have been produced as affordable plastic models by the main Japanese manufacturers such as Kato, Tomix and MicroAce.

I can't help you much with information about current models of European high-speed trains such as the TGV, ICE, etc, other than to suggest checking the ranges of Jouef, Trix, Roco, Mehano and Electrotren.

Try EUROLOKOSHOP.  They are a class outfit that carries several brands of HO and N scale TGVs as well as other really cool euro trains (e.g., DMUs and EMUs).  Their prices are not cheap, but they are very reasonable for the sort of products they carry.  They are great to deal with, and I highly recommend them.  They carry TGVs from Jouef, Mehano (the good stuff they make, and not just the not-so-good sets previously imported by IHC) and Electrotren, among others.  I just bought an N-scale Thalys set by Kato for a lot less than I've seen anywhere else.

Hi all,

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find an HO scale Shinkansen, TGV or Bullet train?  I've searched and can only find models being sold in Japan.  I understand there are some very good trains built by Japanese companies, but I can't seem to find them for sale in the US.  Or any other manufacturers for that matter.
