Monorail Models
Posted by ben13 on Saturday, March 20, 2004 11:25 PM
I am a monorail modeler and I was wondering if anyone out there was another monorail modeler or new of some monorail website besides monorail.org, the monorail society home page.

Where do you find scale monorail products? The only place I've ever seen them is at DisneyWorld. The models they sell are pretty much toy quality at hobby quality prices (though I must admit I've been tempted to buy one).

I found a HO scale monorail here: http://www.ehattons.com/Stock.asp?SID=7932 but it's a bit pricey for my tastes. I've not seen one running and therefore can't comment on the quality of it. I think Revell may make a static model of a "Maglev" style monorail with a length of display track, though I'm not sure what scale it is.

The lack of being able to do anything other than run around in a circle detracts most serious modelers from running monorails. maybe someday down the road they'll have turnouts (yes real monorails have turnouts), crossovers(yes real mono-rails are restricted in some places and have to do crosovers), and other standard tracks to make it more appealing.

Ben13,
Your question aroused my curiosity, so I did a Google search using "monorail models" as the search term. On the fourth or fifth page of "hits" (many weren't) that Google returned I found the site below:
http://www.hiddenmickeys.org/Imagineering/Monorail.html
It was a short thread about making rail for Disney gift shop monorails, but at the bottom were three Email links to apparent monorail modelers. Perhaps a short message to each of them can lead you to other monorail modelers.
