Amount of train spotting

I hear them at work when entering/leaving down by the river, often morning and evening, always a good sign. When I moved here in 99, our little town of Granville, IL had many trains to and from the LTV steelmill in Hennepin, would hear several a day or night and might catch one at one end or the other end of town. I know the sound. The steelmill run was once NYC, then Penn Central, then Conrail, now NS. Wasn't sure, but one sunday, we caught and passed the train leaving Streator, caught it at McNabb and again as it pulled into the steelmill area. Had BNSF locos and NS on the point.
In the summer sunday nights I catch a Amtrak leaving Chicago at Mendota.

I don't mind hearing the trains, they're good for business at the mill. I used to feel UP and SP when I lived in Lynwood near Imperial Highway and the LA river. Although the trains were on the other side of the river, it would jiggle the handles on my dresser, took me a lot of time to figure out what it was, the ground (sandy) shook several blocks away.

Like a little earthquake shake deep, but once I felt it and heard the horn, knew.

Noah , & one more thing I wanted to ask you . Here's a little info on the subject first. We had a train that came through on the WSOR everyday around 3:30-4:00 pm while we were taking care of the horses, & on some days when the train came through the enginer would play a little tune with his horn before & after the grade crossing. Everybody had a good time with this issue. Pattsy still talks about this crew, It would just make her day , She would laugh so much about this because this was the first time that she had ever heard anyone sound the horn like this before . We all would lean on the fence & listen & try to guess what tune he was playing. Each time was a little different tune & It always had a cheerful sound to it . Question?, Do you have any idea who this enginer was? & if you do , do you know what ever happend to him ? Because we haven't heard anything for quite a while now. We sure miss this crew........ALOT................Just wondering if you knew , "Thank You"

To stokerk, I envy you bigtime!![:(!][:(!][V][V] you gat on average 2 trains a day compared to my 2 trains a week! I got to move closer to Madison when i get older, although hopefully I won't have to worry about seeing them, I'll be driving them if I can help it.

But then again if you were to end up on this section of the system , Toot the horn & I'll come running so you can pick me up to run the rails. Around my house in Woonsocket there`s a few points I have to go to to catch the Providence and Worcster, but if I go to the Providence RR model club (That i`m a proud and grateful member of) in Providence theres a yard right behind it and the trains are always busy there.

A few times a month in my case - though I probably hear more trains than I see as my house is near a lightly-used rail line - we get a few single-car railbuses a day.

Not where I live--rush-hour light rail trains have as many as four articulated cars.

four articulated cars is the normal weekday amount here. But on weekends the amount of trains goes from 1 every 5 mins, to 1 every 10 mins and there are about 5-6 articulated cars.

and as for trolleys not being trains, from dictionary.com:
A series of connected railroad cars pulled or pushed by one or more locomotives.

I ride my bike past a yard to my friends house so I see them about twice a week.

NJTransit runs about 80-100 trains thru my area a day. And they have enough variety of locos and cars to keep it interesting.

I hear a train on average once a day, but usually its very late at night or early in the morning before the sun comes up.

also, they are exteding the LRT system further south so i see alot of track builing equipment.

I can hear trains every 30 minutes or so, but I go down to see them about 2 to 3 times a week.

My work is properly situated for just this "problem".
I have a good spot for for CN's Kingston sub & CP switching GM's Oshawa plant from work & having to cross CP's Belleville sub inbetween home & work so it's usually a train fest for me everyday.
It's not desirable, but someone had to do it!!!!!!!! [(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D]

I live less than 2 miles from the mainline but with running here and there, errands etc., I "hear" the trains "loud and clear" more than I see them as horn sounds resonate well in my area. This where I have fun trying to figure what type of horn is blowing (K5, S5, S3, etc)[:D][8D][8)][4:-)][C):-)][swg][tup]

2-5 a day on the WSOR , Weekends usualy varies, Today only one about 6:30 am . They must have been close to notch 8 heavy w / 6 units & one unit appeared to be from the DM&E. Unless I travel to Watertown Wi. to see the CP rails SOO LINE division if you can call it that. They can have alot of traffic at times.

I live a 1/2 mile from a Kansas City Southern line with BNSF trackage rights. If you asked me how often I hear a train, I would reply; "all the time!" Most of the time all I can see is if it's a KCS or BNSF train from where I live. In the winter I can cut across a few fields and see a train if I'm lucky. I'm going to RAILROAD HEAVEN, a.k.a. GALESBURG, ILLINOIS this summer. Then I can train watch in the biggest rail yard in Illinois at Galesburg RR Days. [:D]

I used to see the Western Maryland, Chessie all the time till the branch running through my end of town closed. That was a sad day. [:(] Now I have to go across town to the old PRR line to see any trains on the highline. Rarely do I do that.

I see around 2-4 trains a day seeing that my school is right next to a CP rail mainline.[:D] It is very exiting to see AC4400s, SD90MACs, and SD40-2s everyday.

Just last Friday i had a math test and i was sat next to the window, and 2 SD90MACs came by; one CEFX leaser, and the other was a union pacific (that was rare)

Twice i have seen just 2 locomotives (no cars) going down the tracks.
