Evergreen and Plastruct both have online sites if you need to compare material with someone else in the forums. I cannot post the URLs.

So you need .100 styrene sheet, and 6x6 rods. I think I can pick that up after school on Thursday. Do you need any I-Beams, or Tubing, or what not for brake rigging, or the underframe?

The Evergreen Ho scale 6x6 has 10 pieces about a foot long, that should be plenty for your gon project.

You can always check the Walthers site when you are working on your shopping list

Heh heh... I've been there (and the Steaming Tender) several times. I actually have a video from the Steaming Tender too... Love that place and the owner! Most other hobby shops I've been to the owner doesn't talk to you, except to say "hello"  (if that) and to give information if you ask. I could've talked for hours in there if my parents hadn't gotten tired of waiting for me... I agree with you; Tucker's is the best hobby shop in Massachusetts, and the best I've been to anywhere. Thumbs Up [tup]

The problem is, that shop is about an hour from our house, and going there and the Steaming Tender is an all day affair (lots of fun for me, but a bore for most non-railfans like my parents) so I don't think Tucker's is really as choice.

I wish I was old enough to drive...Sigh [sigh]

How about Tucker's Hobbies in Warren, MA?

http://www.tuckershobbies.com/

Note: They are on vacation until Tuesday.

Tucker's is, IMHO, the best train hobby shop in Massachusetts.  The owner, Bob Buck, has been a railfan since steam ruled the B&A.  He's a great guy, full of stories (and bad jokes).  The shop started in his father's hardware store, and he moved it to his family home which is a large white Victorian house just behind the downtown strip.  There is just room after room of train goodness, and each room is hip deep.  He's got books, detail parts, new and used brass, building kits, tools, paint, scenery materials, videos, Digitrax DCC, etc.  Look at this pic:

And there's still 3 other rooms to look at.

I know that Bob has a Plastruct display for plastic parts, and he also has Evergreen sheets of styrene.  Give 'em a call to see if they have the exact thing you need.

BTW, if you're going off to Warren, try the Steam Tender restaurant in Palmer, MA if you haven't already.  http://www.steamingtender.com/  Great food, great place, and railfanning from your table.

Well, I'm going to attempt to tackle a Soo Line Thrall Gondola from Wayne & Mary Kay Wesolowski's book ABC's of Building Model Railroad Cars so I can check what I need there.

.010" styrene (I think I have some though)

6"-x-6" styrene, I'm not sure how long though, there's 30 posts on the Gondola, but the book doesn't say how long... Plus there's the end of the car, made with the same 6"-x-6" stuff. I'm not sure how much long each piece is...

Second on this one....But I don't know what shapes you are referencing...

What kind of styrene shapes do you need exactly?

Acton Model Railroad Center (35 min from you) has a fairly good selection of Plastruct and Evergreen styrene shapes, but I cannot guarantee that they will have exactly what you are looking for. You might also call Shepaug in Leominster.

There's a craft store in Arlington MA, that has a large selection of evergreen products(and a rack of Woodland Scenics stuff too Big Smile [:D]). What do you need, I could probably pick it up after school on thursday!

Hobby Shops that carry Styrene shapes in Central MA?
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, August 30, 2008 3:43 PM

I need a few different types of styrene shapes for a modeling project, but I don't know which hobby shops in Central Massachusetts carry them. I'd hate to get my parents to drive me to a hobby shop only to find that they don't have what I need. Could someone point me towards the right hobby shops in Central MA that carry styrene shapes?

Thanks,
