Train Shows

Went to a great train show this weekend - The High Wheeler modelrailroad show in Palatine, IL. It took place at Harper College, in the gym, which is three basketball courts wide. Fantastic modular set-ups, mostly in H.O., some N and even a G gauge.

The G gauge had a double mainline with a New York Central Hudson pulling about 20 freight cars! The engine and tender alone is about 3 feet long.

Alot of sound equiped locos in H.O.

Also a great diorama of a seaport with a sound system that produced a fog horn with deep, deep base.

On a whole some very creative layouts.

Anyone else go to a show or swap meet recently? Any great buys?

i enjoyed the gratiot valley show in the detroit area today. i got a sd50, and while i wasn't paying attention, my other self nabbed up three of the new brachline heavyweights! dang him!!

i do have one question to ponder, and maybe there are show runners among you. i could see everything alot quicker if i didn't have to walk by the n, s, and o scale tables. why can't show organizers organize by scale? i know some have several scales, but most don't.

I've been to the one at Harper College many times in the past and it was always a good time! I used to go with son and we would spend hours there.

I remember one year there was a module designed like the 1950's town square from the movie "Back To The Future". It was very well done with the clock tower, etc.

There is only 1 train show here in calgary: Super train. it came on feb. 14 and 15 this year. i got an Athearn bnsf c44-9w, reg. $90, for $45, a "grab bag" for $5 and it had $65 worth of stuff in it, and a revell 1957 0-6-0 saddle tank for $35.

As for the displays, there were alot of good ones, some had helicoptors were the rotors turned! I also seen a bigboy pulling 102 coal hopper cars! there was mostly N and HO but there was 4 lego train displays and 1 mechanno one (do these belong at a model train show?)
