Does anybody know a company that makes a Highnose GP50 in NS. I've been lokking everywhere for these engines. They have them in other roadnames, but NS is the only one I've ever seen them used for.

Hi!! John. I'm pretty sure that Walthers Make a Model of a GP50 in Norfolk Southern. From the pictures i've seen it's not a very detailed model but if you are good enough at detailing it won't take much to bring it up to scratch. By the way I also model NS and CSX, so if you want to nkow anything else then maybe I can Help. My e-mail address is: terrythomson2001@yahoo.com.au

According to to MR's June 2000 Diesel round up, the only manufacturers of GP50 are Athearn & Bachmann. No reference is made to Highnose or NS.

The Bachmann GP50 is available in Highnose. It is in Southern colors, not NS. The Walthers stock number is 160-61204. The other alternative is Athearn's GP50 with a Cannon Company nose job.Walthers Cannon part number 191-1101 will do the GP50.

There's a fellow in Meyersdale Pa, John Patton at
www.yellowstone10@hotmail.com that could paint your shell NS.

John,
I know someone (me) who could build any NS diesel you want with any details or variations you're looking for. Custom building is pretty much the only way to go with most of the NS fleet, since most are modified from the stock EMD or GE offerings. I have built 3 High Nose GP38-2s, a High Nose SD40-2, a High Nose GP40X (before Rail Power Products came out with theirs), a High Nose B23-7, and 3 standard cab C40-9s. I have also built Southern radio cars (found on coal trains with helpers until the mid 90s) and both NW and Southern cabooses. I understand your need for NS. You can contact me about anything you'd like custom built for you or any information on any NS diesel you're interested in (if you'd like to tackle the project yourself) at dieselmodeler@msn.com.

Here is the URL of a low nose GP50 for sale on ebay. It wouldn't cost you much for a high nose kit (6.95) and the paint and decals to make this one work.
