Have you had the opportunity to measure the axle diameter on the P2K Berks?

Greenway has price 69" drivers with 3mm axles, and Bowser has much less expensive ones with ? axles.

The P2K Berkshire will be your best bet for a NKP berk. I replaced both my old United brass and Rivarossi plastic engines with the new P2K engine, and am quite happy that I did! For under $400, it's the best model available (it's even the best NKP Berk available for less than $1000!)

It's not a perfect engine, though. It's a little skimpy on details (the cab roof is bare!) and the drivers are goofy looking. Unfortunately, no one makes replacement drivers, so you'll have to do what Nigel suggested to make them look good. The NKP Yahoo Group has talked about these engines long and hard (partially my fault!), so you might want to check out the archives there if you really want to make the engine look closer to the prototype.

A P2K with the wheels replaced and ashpan detailing added, should be with the above budget, and meet your requirements.

The Rivarossi model would need the above, and a whole lot more.

The old Hobbyline static model ocassionally shows up on ebay, it is quite good and cheap at $10 to $25.

I'm looking for a HO gage Berkshire Loco & Tender that is as true to prototype as possible for the money. That is, added on (not molded on) parts like: Plumbing, air pumps, injectors, reversing blocks, etc.

Even more important for my purposes is, working piston rods.

Specifically, Nickle Plate Road Berkshires. Reasonable prices ($150.00 to $350.00 range).

I'm wanting to do some special photographic work.....and add it to my collection.

Can anyone suggest a manufacturer that has the most realistic looking Berkshires?
